Yeah, EA confirmed Dead Space 2 a looong time ago. If my memory serves me correctly, they even said Dead Space was going to be a trilogy(God, I hope EA doesn't count Extraction as a game in that trilogy...).
Yeah, second half of 2010 sounds right. The people who worked on Dead Space are now working on Extraction and Dante's Inferno, but they'll presumably start working on Dead Space 2 once those are done.

It won't. The original was 2008, this will be 2010. That's decent spacing for a franchise in my opinion.
The game had been confirmed already - but this suggests that work has begun and they are building it right now. Presumably when Dante's Inferno ships that team will move onto Dead Space 2 for the final push to release.
