I plan on getting a PS3 this Christmas and I can't help to feel that the new logo they chose for the PS3 looks bad and that the older version where it was on the side looks alot better. What do you guys think about that?
The logo on the games and all are kool, but putting the logo on the ps3 startup screen is dumb! i prefered the "Sony Computer Entertainment" screen and the beutifull orchestra at the back, the sound in the new version has changes a bit.

I think that was Sarcasm.. Nice job though.
As for the logo thing. I really could not care less about it. It's the games I I'm interrested in. I don't look at my boxes all that much only when I grab a game from the shelf to take the disc out and put it in my PS3. And well ok, when I'm looking at games down in the store but even there it's just a quick glance and then "So I get this, and that.. This one aaand that one, oh and this on too" Buy games I want for whatever I have at home (PC, PS3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP whatever) and that's about it..
I prefer the old style, but the new one isn't bad. Although this didn't need to be a new topic since there are a few that popped up with the same complaint around the time of the change.

It is more curved, but the style is extremely similar to the PS2/PSP logos.
I like the new format, but I really dislike the font. But then again, I hated how they used the Spiderman font for the other ones so I guess it's still better. I don't like how they made it look like the 360's though.

I KNOW! i hate it when they put stickers ON the actual piece of paper in the box, and i have to take them off super carefully or else it will be ruined! putting it on the plastic is one thing but COME ON!
but anyways i like the new font/style a lot better than the spiderman font. and the gradients on the old logo feel so randomly placed and stupid. i guess it's supposed to make it look shiny but it does not. i like the new matte look instead of glossy.
I think it looks great and its basically what EVERYONE refers to it as P...S...Three nobody ever says playstation 3. and it looks stylish enough to be slapped onto every ad

Not really since the Elite co-exists with the Arcade and when it launched there was also the Pro/Premium model. The Slim replaced all previous models. I think they call it a brand relaunch.

They should have just done something with the clear plastic at the top of the box. Color 'PlayStation 3' black and do away with any printed logo whatsoever.

No it's not.
Plus they did this because they want it more uniform and obviously didn't think in their old layout where the 'Only on PS3' and 'PSN' things were going to go. Yes the old did look cooler but better?
They are generic and boring, but definitely not dumb....subconsciously it creates an image on your brain that when associated with anything that make you like from Sony to be associated with everything else Sony does. It's great marketing.
@TwoOneFive: In case you were curious, I don't own a 360. I bought a PS3 instead. ;) And the only reason I think it's based it off of the 360 box art is because of the prominent position of the Playstation Network logo - it's in the same place! Otherwise, yeah it's pretty damn close to the PS2 and PSP boxes.
