Does the Playstation 2 support Widescreen?

Hey, if I hook a PS2 up to an HDTV, what is going to happen?

Is it going to give me black bars to the left and right of the picture, or will it stretch it out?

Or even better, did PS2 support wide screen completely.

I know the games won't play in HD, but what about just widescreen?

Only certain games, and you're going to need the PS2 component cables.

What will happen if I hook it up to a SDTV, through the regular red/yellow/white cables?
