I can't choose. Duke hasn't shown a lot but I love open worlds and from what I've seen, it looks awesome and Gearbox is making it. Deus Ex looks fucking crazy with all that I've seen and I really want to try it out.
Duke Nukem Forever or Deus Ex: Human Revolution? Which you'd rather play?
Duke Nukem, simply because I can play it. If I could travel back in time to 1999, I'd rub it in their fucking faces that I'm playing Duke Nukem Forever.
Don't really have a history with either game but, as a wizard, I can appreciate the fucked up nature of a Duke Nukem game more than what I've seen from Deus Ex.
I just got my masters in being a wizard and I would definitly go with Deus Ex. I love the first game to death, one of my bar none games. With what they've done with the look and feel of human revolution is amazing. Not to mention keep with the tradition and opening a sarif industries website. Its all so awesome
" DNF is going to be a bunch of dumb fun - Deus Ex actually has a story. Easiest decision ever. "Fallout?
" Duke. While I obviously will like Deus Ex plot better, the combat is my main grip with the series. It never felt very natural to me. But truth be told, both games look awesome and I'll eventually play them both. "yeah, but the combat is going to be totally redone?
The last trailer of Deus Ex that doesn't look like the original FEAR engine got me super excited. I love The King, but Deus Ex is one of my most anticipated games.
" @JoeyRavn said:Well, it surely looks more modern, but it will still have those "boxes" when you point at someone, and you'll still have to carry stuff around and whatnot. Really, it's just that I think that mindless shooting looks more appealing to me right now than something more serious, but I'll get both eventually." Duke. As a huge fan of both Duke Nukem (3D) and Deus Ex (the original), both sequels are up among the top of my most anticipated games of this year. That disclaimer now aside, I expect the new Deus Ex to fall shorter of the high mark set by its revered predecessor than the new Duke Nukem will the same, respectively.
Making a good Deus Ex game is a far harder thing to do than making a good Duke Nukem game. Deus Ex demands a ton of story writing and a wide cast of characters; large levels with multiple solution paths; a bunch of varied weapons, powers, and mods to choose from; RPG-style character development; some degree of branching in the story, likely including multiple endings; etc. Duke Nukem has a simpler formula to balance and execute: non-stop, over-the-top, ass-kicking action packed with tons of hideous aliens to splatter; an eclectic arsenal of violent weapons; overblown, but ultimately straight-forward levels; and as much crass humor and raw action hero exploitation as imaginable.
On top of its inherent complexity of craft, Deus Ex as a formula has not fared well in the past when adapted for consoles (DX2 was notoriously maimed by streamlining and other subtle design mistakes--and that was the result of the best efforts by the original developers!). As with pretty much all big-budget multi-platform games made nowadays--especially action/shooting games--Human Revolution is being developed for consoles first and PCs second. Simple reasons for this include the oft-stated greater sales potential of similar games on consoles as well as the design consideration of building software for the more restrictive platform first (consoles), then porting to the more powerful and open platform (PCs), rather than the other way around, which would require shoehorning and a more obvious degree of reworking to achieve basic functionality.
Without further tempting a consoles vs PC discussion, I'll finally answer the poll by picking Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Half the interest surrounding DNF (and that's perhaps being generous) is not driven by the game itself, which seems like a relatively known quantity, but is generated contextually by it being the climax to one of the most infamous stories of game development hell in the history of the industry, and that story is ipso facto nearly over. Making a great Deus Ex game is a far more daunting design challenge with greater potential payoff creatively. So even though I think DNF will be a fine Duke Nukem game and Human Revolution will be a bummer of a Deus Ex game, I'd rather see the attempt that Human Revolution makes.
duke because i just want to know that the fucking game exists. i wont be convinced until i'm actually playing it.
