Favorite video game quotes?

We don't remember dialogue in games as much as TV or movies and that's understandable. Most video games are largely focused on well, gameplay and that's what we take from them. But we're in an age where video game writing is getting better and better. What are some of your favorite quotes from video games? They can be silly, dramatic, or anything in between. They can even be as short as a voice line in a multiplayer shooter.

On the silly side, nothing beats "Thank-a-you so much for to playing my game" at the end of Mario 64.

On the serious side...Mary's entire letter at the end of Silent Hill 2 I suppose.

It's not the best quote in games, but this exchange in Final Fantasy IX always makes me laugh:

Quina: Ah, Zidane. You want go with me!

Zidane: Well... I sort of got stuck with the leftovers...

Quina: You no have to explain! I so happy.

Zidane: Huh?

Quina: There old saying in my tribe... 'Leftovers good!'

"FOOKIN' LASA SIGHTS" "A six inch blade never loses reception". A lot of the intro videos for Rainbow Six Siege are of the ridiculous over-the-top tough guy/gal variety, but Thatcher's is real stupid-sounding. Also I don't know, I've never been screwed over by a Thatcher that isn't busting out an electronic device so that someone on their team can use an electronic device - his ability to stick a six inch blade in my gut isn't improved by his ability to turn off my laser sights.

Also the PS1 dub of Symphony of the Night. The beginning of that game is classic in all the wrong ways, but other parts of it are just as good/terrible. At one point Maria says "What do you here?" and I can only think about the actress looking at her script and saying "are you sure this isn't a typo? Can I just say "what are you doing here" instead?". Oh, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't want it "better", I don't want it "improved" I think it's perfectly imperfect in its first English form. On an entirely different note, I kind of appreciate how often that game quotes philosophy or religion and fits it into its themes and concepts. It doesn't always work very well and sometimes it's so obvious that it just comes across as too much, but I still really like what it's trying to do with its story. This is different from every other Castlevania games, where the story is passable at best.

@superharman: Final Fantasy IX is unironically one of the funniest games I've ever played, thanks to Quina. I love that game.

I think there's a moment where Quina jumps off a bridge because she wants food and an old man next to her is like "suicide, eh?"

mmm, the voice work in Silent Hill 2 really works for me and the script has a lot of good lines.

This opening is perfect.

Also in Gravity Rush 2, when Kat says "Raven" or "Ulala!"

Leon in RE4 when the Ganados are summoned away by the church bell: "Where's everyone going . . . bingo?"

Human Revolution: "It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here."

A lot of it is in the animation and delivery, but Margaret in Red Dead Redemption II is ridiculously entertaining.

"It's bloody Margaret, not madam! Margaret, Mistress of fucking Danger."

Blackbeard in AC IV: Black Flag had a hell of a final line: "In a world without gold, we could've been heroes!"

The quote by itself means nothing, but it has always been stuck in my head. When I think about it, it is actually the first line of dialogue in a game that turned me into a gamer. So it's quite iconic for me.

Before GTA3, I played PS1. I always thought the PS1 was lame, even as a child. It's still lame.

"Don't be sorry, be better" is maybe my favorite of all time. The whole "ca-caw" conversation from Psychonauts is great, but I don't know if that counts as a quote. The most cringeworthy I can think of is DMC3's "jackpot." Ooh-boy that was rough.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: "I know I'm already a demon. Heaven's not my kind of place anyway."

Bioshock Infinite: "Booker, are you afraid of God?" "No. But I'm afraid of you."

From Resonance of Fate, when referring to the bust size of their party member.

Mine is my favorite for a different reason: "I do what I must" - Hanzo, Overwatch. It's my favorite because I never get tired of spamming that while spinning around and doing stupid shit. I'm a simple man, what can I say?

"A man chooses, a slave obeys" has stuck with me a lot. More recently, though, it's "I've got an unfortunate face" from RDR2. I sympathize with that one a lot, tbh.

I think about this all the time when things like net neutrality, SOPA, PIPA, and related stories are in the news. Particularly the last line:

I still remember so many of the Secret Project quotes from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. That game really made an impression on me when I was young

This bit of a dialogue at the ending to Grim Fandango has stayed with me for over a decade.

"Fucko?...who says that?"

The delivery on the last line really puts it over the top for me. It's one of my favorite quotes in anything, let alone games. The casual "calm down, chief" response adds a lot too.
