Favourite Box Art of 2012

Journey's box art could be number 1 for me, but I'm not sure what it is. The one on this page is quite nice, let's go with that.

That Tokyo Jungle one is runner up.

Skimming through this thread has showed me that box art was great this year. Gravity Rush, Tokyo Jungle, Sleeping Dogs.

Sleeping Dogs, Borderlands 2, and Dark Souls Prepare to Die have been my favorite. Oh and Persona 4 Arena too.

This is my favorite. So beautiful.

Both are amazingly effective in portraying the overall atmosphere. I'm rooting for both.

But then, most of the Japanese covers are also drop-dead gorgeous.

I know it came out last year, but the resistance 3 box art is pretty awesome.

My absolute favorites from the Japanese and Western sides have already been posted in the form of Tokyo Jungle and Halo 4, respectively, so I'll just spend this post pointing out some more obscure ones that I think are worth mentioning. They're probably all going to be for Japanese games (or at least Japanese versions of games), if only because they tend to stick in my mind longer.

Definitely Sleeping Dogs.

Really beautiful. Reminds me of some of the good old JRPGs' arts. At least no amateur facial collage.

Oh shoot -- this thread makes me wish I got hard copies of some of the games that came out this year.

Actually, I did manage to get a Sleeping Dogs hard copy, so I'm pretty happy about that!

Syndicate is pretty amazing.

Sleepy Dawgs, the reverse box art for Xenoblade Chronicles, and Tokyo Jungle are my favorites this year, from what I can remember anyway.

I really like Sleeping dogs, Tokyo Jungle, Fez and a few others already mentioned. Also:

I like it's retro style.

I'm gonna place my vote for Sleeping Dogs.

It's the one game with reversible cover art where I actually took the cover out and made the switch, but that has more to do with the other games not having the name of the game on the side of the reversible cover.

Still a fantastic piece of art, of course.

While I don't think it's the best, it is up there.

It doesn't really look good on photo, but the physical box is pretty sweet.

Now imagine it without the horribly oversized xbox markings.

Also:

Gravity Rush's is definitely a favorite. Actually, that's probably the only box art this year that really stood out to me.

There is so much chin-down eyes-up going on in this thread. It's incredible.

I'm going to back this. I never played it but its marketing really made me pay attention. So much more interesting than just a render of the main protagonist or antagonist on a generic background.

zone of the enders, metal gear solid hd collection edition, persona 4 , the witcher and borderlands 2 are my favorite box art covers.

2012 to me is the year of boxart destruction walmart/gamestop editions and putting your pre-order crap on the actual box not a sticker. Worst trend of 2012.

Not seeing any covers mentioned here to be particularly striking. Sine Mora and Gravity Rush are my favorites from the ones I've seen here so far.

Theatrhythm & Halo 4. The UK version of Theatrhythm seems to be a lot less busy, but it's still as cool.

I love the Diablo 3 Collector's Edition box. It reminds me of the old PC game boxes.

I got AC III at a local independent retailer and when I got it home was shocked that even that copy had a "TARGET EDITION" heading somehow. Not sure how that worked.

The AC III cover is one of the less offensive versions of that trend but still stupid.

I struggled to think of one I liked more than

I wish more companies offered ways to get some of these boxes art printed out in poster form without all the shitty logos on them. While the game didn't do much for me, I love the look of the box art of the original Katamari Damacy and have wanted to get a poster of that framed since I seen it.
