What are some games where you're like "OH FUCK I'M IN SPACE!"
Here are some that come to mind:
- Portal 2
- Final Fantasy 8
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Gran Turismo 6
- Saints Row The Third
@video_game_king: We thought that we would let you do the honours.
/thread.
Really? None of you have listed Final Fantasy VII? Or V?
I'm a child of the PS1 Final Fantasy's, so V's space segment is lost on me. And I found 8's space segment more extensive and memorable than VII's which did not stick with me enough to remember it.
@akyho: All of the Phantasy Stars - the numbered series anyway - have some moment where you end up in space. The first one even has spaceports.
Also, III? What III? THERE IS NO PHANTASY STAR III!!!
Phantasy star 3...YOU WERE IN SPACE ALL ALONG!!!
You say that as though most games don't take place in space.

fuck yeah. The unexpected twist is still up there among my "oh shit we're in space" moments.
Bayonetta, but, I guess if you wanna be real about it, that game gets so batshit crazy that going into space kinda seems like the logical conclusion...
k

Most games don't make you think your on a medieval world, then find out there is advanced tech that leads onto you going up to a console and going "What this isnt a world but a generational ship!? in space? in the algol system!"
The threads about unexpectedly being in space...I think thats the definition of the moment in Phantasy star 3.

PS1 has space ports so you are not unexpectedly in space when you do. PS4 you get told to go into space and end up in space, so it is expected.
PS2 has you run around a place go on a warp pad, then run around a new place...the realise your in space and start the search to for a shuttle a bugger off. If I recall right. And the HQ you have been going to turns out to to half a spaceship so thats another surprise.
While PS3 I documented above.
Final Fantasy IV is probably the most out of the blue. In Star Ocean 2 the way it handles space is unexpected, lets say.
Most games don't make you think your on a medieval world
Medieval worlds are still technically in space.
@video_game_king: Why are you being so awkward? Why are you picking on me. Why do you feel the need to be a childish asshole this moment?
The Bouncer
Mega Man X7 (and X4 come to think of it.. although not really, since it's foreshadowed a full stage in advance)
Ace Combat 3 and 5
in Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge (or just Red Alert 2) there is a mission where you are on the moon
F-Zero GX (if that counts)
Sonic 2
Mario Kart 64
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Well, spoilers, but... Virtue's Last Reward.
Haha that was so good.
Where's the Blast Corps love? Dump trucks on the moon!
great thread but i may have inadvertently ruined the plots of ten or so games i haven't played.
(and yes they're ALL better than brothers, which also coincidentally ends up in space)
