I make little tiny games, and I really want to make one about lumberjacks. There are about two lumberjack games in existance, and this saddens me.
I still don't know what the game should be. I think the player should cut down trees, so there's a start.
Let's brainstorm.
If you had to make a game about being a lumberjack
" Fable 2 is the best lumberjack simulator. "You obviously never played Battlefield Bad Company, now did ya? hehehe There's even an achievement called "Manic Lumberjack".
Hordes of slow moving enemies that have to be squashed by chopping down trees. Their corpses rot and fertilise the earth, making more trees grow where they died. Of course, let too many trees grow and you can't see where the enemies are coming from, so you have to get your tree / open space ratio right. Trees can create a domino effect for bonus multipliers. Naturally, the game would have full physics in effect just to totally screw up your carefully constructed plans, causing you to throw a controller and chip it.
(i am thinking flash game side scrolling format)
I'm surprised there are already two lumberjack games.
I think an obvious choice would be a resource management sim. Figuring out how to optimally cut up lumber based on consumer demand, balancing your area of harvestable trees versus government regulation and pressure from environmental groups, etc...
Crysis.
Actually, I'd make it a Wii game with an axe-shaped plastic Wiimote holder thing, because Wii owners definitely need more of those. >_< And it'd take place on the surface of the sun. There'll be a harder difficulty where you fling cards at trees to cut them instead.
I would go with a Monty Python inspired Lumberjack game.
I used to watch the Lumberjack World Championships on the "Deuce". It's coming up again in July, so head to Wisconsin if you want to be inspired up close.
The lumber jack should fight against beavers who are cutting down trees, so then you have to play as the lumberjack seeking revenge on the beavers?
You should make one where you play as the tree. The goal is to drop enough acorns to disable the Lumberjack before he can defeat you.
You should make a GoW-style hack n slash, with dual hatchets as the quick attack and a chainsaw as the heavy. Also a sawn-off for the ranged could be coooooool. You would have to cut down trees to get goodies like health, and you would get health upgrades each time you successfully destroy a habitat and/or eat woodland creatures. It would be like the anti-sonic. And you would fight badgers and ferrets, the dirty dicks.
