It's expensive for a game from that time so I want to be sure about this purchase, I was just wondering if it holds up now, I know it's not terribly old but I just am curious, as I'll have to whip out the ol' ps2.
Thanks

Hell no. It's never too late for Persona.

#3 Posted by Wolfgame (760 posts) -

@video_game_king: beat me to it, but agree completely. Persona 4 ages very well, jump in and enjoy!

#4 Posted by Pie (7103 posts) -

You should watch the endurance run instead

#6 Posted by natetodamax (19208 posts) -

Persona 4 is one of the greatest games ever made. It'll probably be infinitely playable. Do it!

#7 Posted by lennyy (73 posts) -

Someone suggested I should just watch the endurance run. I'm thinking of doing both around the same time. Thanks guys/gals.

#8 Posted by Bane122 (794 posts) -

Nope, game's still very great. And if you're in the U.S. Amazon has new copies for under $20.

#9 Posted by Gamer_152 (14080 posts) -

It's cheap, I think it holds up well, and it's a great game. If you feel like the battles might be a bit of a slog then I think there's an argument for just watching the Endurance Run, but otherwise it's well worth playing.

It's never too late! If you have a ps2/ps3 and a copy of the game go for it. If you have a vita the golden version is great.

#12 Posted by Chemystery (230 posts) -

I highly recommend getting The Golden for the vita if you can. It's significantly easier and smoother to play, but that may not be an option if you don't have a vita. Either way it is never too late and that game is well worth going back for.

I actually started it 2 weeks ago. I plan on finally watching the endurance run as soon as I'm done. So I say go for it! I wish I had gotten to it sooner if anything.

#15 Posted by Grimluck343 (1149 posts) -

...I bought a Vita specifically just to play Golden so... no, it's not too late.

From what I understand, this is how a lot of people played through Persona 4. They'd play through some of the game, then watch the ER, then play through more of the game, etc.

Me? I played through Persona 3 FES while watching Persona 4. I thought about not playing P4 at all due to watching the ER, but I bought a Vita and am playing through Golden right now. It's mostly the same content, but it's all still pretty damn good and it especially deserves your attention if you've never played it before.

So, yes, absolutely buy it and play it.

Fuck no. I just started playing Persona 3.

Duder it's only like 20 bucks on amazon. Please play it.

Some people are playing nes atari ect games today so no, If i was into jrpgs, i would defently try it though

#23 Posted by ImmortalSaiyan (4683 posts) -

Not at all. The game is exceptional and sure to be a classic.

It's never too late. Ever. Crawl inside the television set and fight some monsters!

#25 Posted by Vextroid (1406 posts) -

It's never to late! But play Golden on Vita if you can.

Like they say, "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words(+1)".

Edit: In fact, I bought a Vita this past weekend mostly for P4G. I mean I got some other games too, but P4G is what swayed my decision in the long run.

Too late? No.

But they've had Persona sales on PSN before. No need to get a PS2 hardcopy.

#28 Posted by BigJeffrey (5025 posts) -

@mcfart: Persona 4(PS2) is not on PSN

#29 Posted by MonetaryDread (2040 posts) -

No and Yes. Yes, you can go back and play the game, but No, because you are a bad person for not playing it already. You will forever be burdened by your past.

#30 Edited by cutyoface (545 posts) -

NO! Play it immediately.

It's never too late

The graphics may be a little dated, but it's the writing that makes the game what it is, and that writing is timeless.

Never surrender. Never give up. Never too late.

#33 Posted by Mcfart (1626 posts) -

Oh, and I suggest just watching the ER if you don't wanna spend money.

#34 Edited by madman356647 (273 posts) -

It's $20 on Amazon (less if you buy from one of the other listings). I played it last year and I loved it. It holds up fine, but like everyone said, just watch the ER if the price tag is too high for ya.

#35 Posted by Damodar (1403 posts) -

You should totally get it. Totally.

Also, if you have a somewhat decent PC, emulating it can make it look really good. You can jack up the resolution it renders at internally and everything looks so crisp and yet so smooth at the same time. My PC is like 5 years old and it can render internally at about 4000x3000 with no worries, which is kind of overkill anyway. The only problem is the assets like character portraits being SD, they look pretty fuzzy with everything else looking so good. There's also an odd issue with the sorting of the layers in some menus, but that's minor. The pros far outweigh the cons and my copies of Persona 3 and 4 probably aren't going near a playstation again.

#36 Posted by ChrisHarris (279 posts) -

If you don't have a Vita to play Persona 4 Golden, this is the next best way to play Persona 4.

#37 Posted by Dagbiker (6977 posts) -

Its pretty great, I spent 94 hours on my first playthrough and just hit new game right away and started my seceond, You will not regret it.

#38 Posted by Gatehouse (633 posts) -

I just wish I had something I could play it on, my PS2 has long flown the nest. Does anyone know if it'll play on a fat PS3?

#39 Posted by MentalDisruption (1639 posts) -

It's always time to play Persona 4 in my opinion.

#40 Posted by lennyy (73 posts) -

@madman356647: I live in the UK and it's slightly more pricey, but after these guys being so enthusiastic about it I'm definately getting it, I don't know if I should get a vita too and play Golden or just get the PS2 copy.

#41 Edited by BigJeffrey (5025 posts) -

@xx420kingblazer420xx: PS2 is okay, Golden is better. If you have a beefy PC i'd say buy a copy then just emulate it.

#42 Edited by madman356647 (273 posts) -

@xx420kingblazer420xx: if you wanted a vita, get golden. Same game but more content. Otherwise youll be fine with just the ps2 game

#43 Posted by oldenglishC (960 posts) -

I thought about starting to play it a couple of days ago, but just couldn't force myself to. Some games just don't hold up after finishing them five times and sitting through two other dudes playing it.
