So I received my copy of Killzone 2 today via GameFly. I pop it in and jump into some multiplayer. The game looks great, I'm digging the changing match types and 16 vs 16. My only problem (and it is a big one) is the controls. Now I'm used to playing FPSs on Xbox 360 so already I wasn't feeling comfortable with playing one on my PS3. I tried most of the controller setups. I think I went with Alternate 1, which puts aim on L1 and melee on R3. I really wanted a Call of Duty setup, which would have put melee on circle and crouch on R3.
Anyways, I played for a few hours, ranked up a little. Keep saying to myself, I wish this played more like Call of Duty and I wish I was using my 360 controller. So I took the game out, put in World at War and had fun.
I'll give it another try. I guess I just need to get used to the controls. I'll probably just stick to FPSs on 360 though, the Dualshock 3 just isn't to my liking for a shooter.
Killzone 2, ehhh

maybe you're not fit for this game. i think you should go back to cookie-cutter shooters like COD4 or something like that. even though i think COD4 was fun, KZ2 pwns it.
The controls are different and definitely weird if you play a lot of FPS, but that's why I like it. Though I can understand if other people don't get the groove. Apparently they're working on a patch that'll address control issues. What that means and when it takes place, I have no idea. Don't take this the wrong way, because it's not intended to be malicious, but if you really want it to play like CoD you should probably just stick to CoD; there ain't nothing wrong with that. Hell I'm still playing Battlefield 2 on a regular basis because nothing offers a similar experience.
Hopefully you warm up to Killzone 2, because it can offer quite a lot.
"maybe you're not fit for this game. i think you should go back to cookie-cutter shooters like COD4 or something like that. even though i think COD4 was fun, KZ2 pwns it."I love this excuse. When people say they hate Killzone 2's controls, dissenters have to reply with "well, then you're just not good enough for this game". If a game's controls are awkward to use, and maybe even laggy (I've read something about the aiming having to "accelerate", whatever that means) than that is a detriment to the game, not a mark that it is 'ahead of it's time'.
"Apparently they're working on a patch that'll address control issues."That actually pisses me off. As a guy who's grown accustomed to the controls and them suddenly going about face and saying "oh we could've made it the most intuitive and widely accepted control scheme out there" just smacks of either a misguided attempt at being "original" or just plain awful gamedesign.
You shouldn't suddenly have this epiphany if you've had years and years of testes and betas giving you feedback on this controls.
I was kinda impressed with how GG stood by their guns how this was the way their game should be played and then they backtrack like this afterwards?
Bull-fucking-shit.

go to kilzone 2.com, there's an article on the site that talks about how GG is not changing anything to the controls. to me, im very happy to hear that.
"Although I know I can get used to the controls...I plan on making one of these in the near future:Wow that is pretty sick anyway.... yea Killzone 2 could use a slight control fix up I 100% agree and it turns out that Guerrilla is taking a look at controls for their next update for the game"
"Chainblast said:Can I get a link to this story? I thought the controls were a result of a deliberate design decision, and just changing them now seems odd. Not to mention it would change the balance of the game. I think you're taking this a bit hard, though. But more important, what's this about "years and years of testes"?"Apparently they're working on a patch that'll address control issues."That actually pisses me off. i had no problems with the controlls, i enjoy how it handles.
In all fairness, they are 2 different kinds of games. The Call of Duty series is much more suited for "run and gun" type of duels, where you can run up on someone, and kill them while running around in crazy circle straffing patterns. Killzone 2 on the other hand, is a lot more deliberate and "still" in its gameplay. It's not suited for crazy acrobatics; the game wants you to find a zone, set up shop, and stop-and-pop. Once you start playing it with THAT mindset, you'll start having more fun. I liken it to trying to play Madden the same way you would attempt to play NFL Blitz.
"But more important, what's this about "years and years of testes"?"Freudian slip :P
"I really wanted a Call of Duty setup, which would have put melee on circle and crouch on R3.Anyways"Since when is COD controls like that? Mine are default to crouch on circle and melee R3.

You can switch controls to that. I have mine set up that way (on 360 anyway)

Maybe it's not that I'm not fit, for this game, maybe I just don't like it. I'm just expressing my opinion on how I feel about it. I got a little more used to it, but you shouldn't have to deal with a game to enjoy it.
I actually prefer Rainbow Six Veags pacing in FPSs than faster paced. Maybe I am getting it wrong when I'm thinking I should just be playing COD when I'm playing Killzone, but it reminds me of that style, at least thats how everyone is playing so far.
I just played some more and had fun, I've gotten used to the control layout but maybe it's just that I'm used to my 360 controller, but I'm having trouble with zoomed in aiming, even with the sensitivity up.
"maybe you're not fit for this game. i think you should go back to cookie-cutter shooters like COD4 or something like that. even though i think COD4 was fun, KZ2 pwns it."fanboy much ?
I went into Killzone 2 being a dedicated PC FPS player and, although I am getting over the hurdle of not having a mouse, I am getting much better with the controls and feel of the game. I was definitely terrible at first but having played through the SP and now almost having three stripes to my name, it's not too bad.
I find it comfortable to not handle the controller with the grips, but to let it rest in my lap, upwards at a bit more than an angle of 45 degrees, and then have the joysticks and L1/2 R1/2 at my fingertips. I apologize if this just so happens to be common knowledge but it works for me. : )
