List your Top 5 RPGs
My Top 5 games from My Personal Favorites list are all RPGs, so this was pretty easy to answer.
My Favorite Games of All Time ~ 2010 edition
This is a best of list for right now. I tried to limit myself to 10 originally, but there were just too many unmentioned to I bumped it up to 20. Of course, like life, this list is a work-in-progress. [Newly Updated: Ha-ha, I look like such a Bioware fanboy.] [Second Update: I switched some of the order around. Sept.-24]
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic This was my previous number one game. It had occupied this spot since 2004. EDIT: Switched back to #1 spot after I replayed it recently
2. Dragon Age: Origins This has moved to my number one spot in a relatively short period of time. EDIT: Dropped to the #2 spot recently.
3. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES This game enthralled me for hours upon hours. It touched me more emotionally than any other game.
4. Mass Effect 2 A spectacular space adventure full of unique settings, engaging characters, and high action. Simply one of the most fun games ever. This is what we dreamed gaming would be like in the future when I was in short pants.
5. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Replayability is what earns this games place on my list.
1. Oblivion (also, coincidentally, my favorite game ever)
2. Morrowind
3. Puzzle Quest 1 (it counts!)
4. Guild Wars/WOW tie
5. Mass Effect
Diablo II - Loot, loot, loot! Yeah, that. I've spent days and days and days in this game simply because of how fun the loot is.
Persona 3: FES - I love SMT games, but this is just the right combination of combat depth, monster creation, and pure ass-fuckery (at least on hard) that creates easily the best experience on PS2, ever.
Fallout 1 - This game showed me how open an RPG can be, and how to do it correctly: give the player a heavy incentive to do the main quest, but when they have free time the openness should be OPEN as all hell
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn - Oh gawd. This is BioWare's fucking pinnacle in the same way Persona 3 is an SMT apex: hard as shit if you want it to be, very appealing and strong characters and storyline, and plenty of fun side quests to go around. Yum.
Final Fantasy Tactics - Best FF game. I also love Strategy games, so a combination of the two makes for a great game. Easily broken, but still fun without the Calculator/Ninja.
Edit: That's what I get for the first spoiler tag :/
- Chrono Trigger
- Disgaea 1+2 (PSP) / 3 (PS3)
- Fallout 3 / New Vegas
- Diablo 2
- Wizardry 8
Damn that is tough to choose. I put the three Disgaea (Fallout 3 as well) titles under one label because they really are just variations on the same game.
Honorable Mentions:
- Arcanum
- Wow
- Stonekeep
- D&D Forgotton Realms Collection (Hillsfar, Menzoberanzan, Eye of the Beholder, etc.)
- Final Fantasy 9
- Wild Arms 1 + 3
- Breath of Fire 4
- Tactics Ogre [(PSP) The only reason this isn't on the list is because of how new it is to me)
- Etrian Odyssey 3
- Dragon Quest 5 + 8
"This guy knows his rpgs."
- Pokemon Blue
- Pokemon Silver
- Pokemon Sapphire
- Pokemon Pearl
- Pokemon Black
Fallout Franchise
SRT: OG Saga: Endless Frontier
Pokemon FireRed/White
Final Fantasy 8/12
Earthbound
People listing Mass Effect 2 as an RPG make me chuckle.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Neverwinter Nights
Icewind Dale
Dragon Age: Origins
Japanese
Final Fantasy IX
Secret of Mana
Legend of Mana
Final Fantasy VI
Super Mario RPG
I feel like I need to play Chrono Trigger soon.
" @Zippedbinders said:I just have an incredibly hard time seeing Mass Effect 2 as an RPG when the only remaining components that resemble an RPG are superficial features that are present in things like most modern multiplayer shooters." People listing Mass Effect 2 as an RPG make chuckle. "And when I see commments like yours I think of the many "facepalm" pictures on the internet. "
Ratchet and Clank has more RPG features than Mass Effect 2 does.

I love the story and the characters and playing as my Shepard, it was a good game, just not what I could call a RPG." @phrosnite said:You are one of "those" people, eh? I feel sorry for you. " @phrosnite said:You still don't get it? By "those" people I meant people who don't know what is the thing that makes a game RPG. I don't have the time nor the will to try to explain it to you. There has been a lot of talk on this very subject in the past few months. I will just say this... ME2 is more RPG than Diablo 2." @Zippedbinders said:Never said I didn't like it.
