So both games build towards an epic, and very emotional conclusion...and they both end with pointless cliffhangers with the intended purpose to sell you some fucking DLC.
Cases in point.
FFXIII-2:
So immortal, purple Axel Rose kills himself and you defeat the giant time monsters he summons and save time/space as a result, everybody is happy as shit and things are cool! OH NO, SUDDENLY DARK CLOUDS! Serah dies, time and space is collapsing, Lightning is a frightening crystal thing....and purple Axel Rose is alive and well and nothing you did mattered. SE isn't going to make another game about fighting boring ass purple Axel Rose, this is clearly all set up for an expansion pack.
You say your goodbyes to your comrades, you tenderly bro-out with Garrus, you kiss your lady friend and you set sale for almost certain oblivion in hopes of saving the day. Oops, every fucking thing around you is suddenly vaporized, you manage to barely survive thanks to your trashed armor(that's now melted on you) and you make one last , hazy, but valiant effort to wreck shit. You make your way to the god beam, and transport into a never before seen area of the citadel and you encounter some old friends. They both die, but you're able to make it to an elevator where you meet the apparent Reaper God somehow in the form of the boy who haunts your dreams. He gives you three choices, give up your life to temporarily control his dudes, magically fuse man with machine, or send out an emp that destroys all synthetic life, including some dear friends. So, you choose option three, you save all organic life, but you doom millions of comrades and even yourself. You're trapped in an exploding colony, bleeding out with no way home. You die happy knowing that humanity will live on. ...but wait, you luckily amassed an incredible army before choosing to destroy the reapers, so...you suddenly wake up in a pile of rubble in London, fully armored and apparently not riddled with burns and bullets. THE END? The stunning conclusion to Mass Effect is a confusing cliffhanger that could only possible lead to DLC.
