I'm kinda stoked for the Star Wars: The Old Republic,But Never played the frst game KOTR. Should I go and but that game for like 15 bucks and get to know the game before the new one comes out or do you think the online community is dead and I won't get a good experience?

Hate to burst your bubble but KOTOR isn't an MMO.

Why would the online community affect your KOTR experience?

You can get KOTOR free on some digital download site if you answer some Star Wars questions correctly.

Yes, get it. It is a fantastic RPG. And you don't have to worry about the online community being dead - it has no online community because it's a single player game.

Online community? KOTOR and KOTOR 2 are RPGs, not MMORPGs.

Even if it isn't an MMO you should get it, no doubt about that.
Especially since it's so cheap on steam now, it's a really great game.

Its a single player game, but if you have never played it and you are interested in the upcoming mmo, I would say definitely get it.

You should definitely play it.  It is a great game with a fantastic story and for me is in the top 5 greatest games.  With all this talk about The Old Republic recently I have been fighting the urge to play through it again.  Will probably succumb to temptation over the hols.

Should you play KoTOR or KoTOR 2?  Uh...hell yes.  They are great games, although 1 was way better than 2.

While it's not mandatory, it'll probably help if you plan on playing The Old Republic.  Some background information  regarding issues that lead up to the conflict will be probably be directly from KoTOR and KoTOR 2.

I would buy kotor 1 and 2 now, play through them and then play through them closer to launch again. The games are truly fantastic and it makes me kind of disappointed that Bioware is not making a third one.

Or are you talking about Star Wars: Galaxies? If you are, skip it. "

I think you are right.  He might have been confused with Galaxies.  I heard they had a complete game pack out now.  That is definitely not worth it for a number of reasons, the largest being near empty servers, but also it doesn't take place at the same time in Star Wars history as either the Old Republic or Knights of the Old Republic.   If he really wants to try it though the game has a 14-Day free trial.

I count KOTOR as my favorite game ever.  I've played through it three times and am about to start a fourth since I picked it up from Steam this past Thanksgiving weekend for $2.50.   If you want to really get a taste for the Old Republic universe, which takes place 3500 years before Luke and Darth Vader's stories, then play KOTOR.

I just got Galaxies, essentially for free when I bought the Lucas Arts Premier pack from Steam while it was on sale.
Since I already have it, do you guys think it'd be at all worth installing just for the trial period, or should I not even waste my time on that?

As for Knights of the Old Republic, I'm not sure how much TOR will connect to it and that game isn't due out for another couple of years at the earliest, but both the original KotOR games are still very much worth playing.

Obviously not, considering he made a thread asking if he should buy it after Black Friday was already over.
