Not sure if anyone else on the forums picked up on this since I haven't been on in a few days, but according to a Eurogamer article, a game called My Little Sister Can't Possibly Be This Cute Portable: Can't Possibly Continue was the number 1 selling game in Japan last week. It even beat out one of my favorite games of all time Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSP remake). I went to Youtube to see just what this games all about & still have no idea, looks like some weird dating sim. Is it normal for obscure games like this that no one in west has ever heard of to sell this well in Japan? The game doesn't even have a page on the Giantbomb wiki as far as I can tell.
So apparently this is the biggest game in Japan.
I imagine the cute factor is driving its sales. Oh, and most likely the fact that the PSP is still relevant (or at least far more relevant than it is in the west).
u r mistakeIs that a anime or am I mistake?
But no, apparently it is? I dunno. Don't want to dwell too much into it.

It did get an anime adaptation.
What is it about and is it any good?
The culture is extremely different out there. Remember the Illusion games before the US found out and shut them down.
Do people really not know what Visual Novels are?
It's a VN, a visual novel. It's a Japanese game format, often (though certainly not always) erotic/porny. Surprisingly strong stories and characters in some cases. Calling it a game is something of a stretch: there's no combat or character control at all, it's entirely composed conversations sequences like of what you see in the video.

I like the series a lot, a lot of people just assume it's something dirty from its title when it's not even close to that.
You have a younger (adopted?) sister that loves eroge. Give her a gothic lolita cosplaying friend. Add potential romance angles. Profit.@Cloudenvy said:

The game might be selling at the top of the charts right now but it'll drop off very fast once the most ardent of fans buy their copy to show their loyalty.
Okay so I searched the Japanese title of the game & found this wiki page. Just a stub so I might try to edit it some. Would it be better to change name of the wiki page to its English translation? Haven't worked on the wiki much so I'm not sure on how that works.

Yeah, it's a shame. I really liked the anime and the true route episodes.
I liked Oreimo when I watched it last year. The description of the show's generally horrible (big brother finds out that little sister has a thing for little sister hentai games) but watching it I liked how it was more about coming to terms with the things that make you a strange and finding out that while you might be strange, you're not alone. I remember a previous Oreimo game topping the charts in Japan as well, so there's a following for it. Also, if P2: EP is like the other PSP Persona games, a lot of it's business might have been done digitally for people looking for something to do with their Vita.

There's episode 1 if anyone's interested streaming on Hulu.

"To Kyousuke's surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled Imouto to Koishiyo! (Love with Little Sister!)."
I'm going to Japan to kill all the men. I'll be back later.

So out of curiousity I looked it up and the previous Oreimo game charted third in it's first week behind two games that I hear are kind of good.

So after reading that synopsis I am actually more confused then I was before
Also visual novel/dating sims do top the charts sometimes in Japan, but it is never against something strong like Monster Hunter or FF
I would say Japan's so crazy sometimes, but I feel like they are all of the time. I read about someone selling urine and armpit scents and yes, that link will bring you to Kotaku.
@HardcoreScene08: How is the PSP remake of P2:EP? Did they only redo the graphics and music or did they go deeper than that?

From everything I've read they did the same as with Innocent Sin. Remixed soundtrack, new intro, updated graphics, about it.
Should be released outside of Japan later this year.
Amazing how Japan make dating games, hentai, sex robots, yet refuse to actually date and have real sex.Japanese people sure like their dating games.
Just looks like a normal visual novel style game. I did watch the anime for this does anyone know if this is l this a sequel or something ?
Before people start over reacting to the title know that a lot gets lost in translation with anime. Many times I've been put off by a title only to watch an episode or two and find out it's completely different from what the title literally translates as.

I've gotta get something straight: this is not an anime/visual novel about a dude having sex with his *gulps* fourteen year old sister?
Right?
Right?
Just about a guy who catches that little sister with a porn stash?
@HarlequinRiot said:
Pretty standard. The Japanese sales chart are bananas sometimes.
Yeah. And these kinds of "visual novels" are pretty popular with Eastern/Eastern-centric folks. I know a few such "Eastern-centric" individuals that were a bit obsessed with Katowa Shojo or something to that effect. It's just a choose your own adventure style thing, but with some anime/manga style graphics. And usually awful writing. Or at least translation.

Couldn't that be applied to any game though? Why not learn to play real guitar or actually join the military to kill people?
Well plenty of people do play guitar or join the military. Sex in Japan is bombing harder than the Vita.@Metal_Mills said:

Ha ha.
That is kind of odd, hard to believe, and ironic.
