Oh people in this thread, who know nothing about the subject at matter.
So apparently this is the biggest game in Japan.
It's hard to trust people with anime avatars that are saying that the game/manga/anime about a 14 year old little sister liking porn is actually a sensitive piece of drama.
Don't get me wrong, I love some animes, but this fits so neatly with the stereotypical "Oh crazy Japan and their little girl porn cartoons!" view.

You can trust Lincoln. It's not what you think. Honestly.
Apparently this is doing quite well too: http://www.giantbomb.com/conception-please-give-birth-to-my-child/61-37018/

All right. Still odd subject matter, but not really eyebrow raising to me anymore.
@AhmadMetallicI wish I could. Repulsive motion drawings of disproportionate human-like creatures in my way.Gross, as usual.Completely ignorant and dismissive, as usual. How about learning what a game is actually about before shifting on it?
@Bocam: That's a shame then! hopefully I'll feel differently about it since the part where she didn't want to sleep with her brother was what made the first handful of novels so enjoyable.
Or I'll just go full on Usagi Drop mode and act like the latter half of the series does not exist.

Heh. People should ALWAYS be judged by their avatars.
That's why no one wants to talk to me.

Certainly not as long as you continue to perpetuate the idea that the opinions of those with anime-based avatars are somehow less valuable than others based on the images alone.@Wes899 said:

Oh, don't be like that. It was only lighthearted. And I used to watch Bleach so I like your avatar. I'm talking about people who are REALLY on the outside looking in.
My point was that if you haven't seen any anime, and you saw this thread where some people were saying "oh Japan!" and then the only people who were defending it happen to have anime avatars, you would take their opinions with a grain of salt. By having an anime avatar you openly present yourself as a fan. Part of fandom means defending what you love, but it often doesn't help to convince other people to be on your side. Like if you supported a football team, and used their logo as your avatar, and someone accuses one of your team's players of wetting himself, but you're like "NO WAY THAT WAS WATER," people would think you were biased because of your avatar.
Now that 8-4 is on GB I wonder if they could take sometime on their podcast and talk about the Visual Novels, I feel that people are always giving the Visual Novels a bad reputation. I just started listening to them when they came over to GB, so I wonder they ever had an indepth discussion about it. VN seem be popular throughout Asia. I always thought of them as part of the Graphic Novels genre.

How far removed from reality do you have to be to get offended by a Japanese PSP game?
I dunno that conception game is p. terrible and creepy
What are you talking about? Conception is the greatest game ever made
it's also misogynistic as hell, so
@Bocam said:
@Rapid: 8-4 seems to not like them
Do you know if they have ever discussed why VN are popular, or the question that I had, how come they are though as games? Is it just because that's how they are market'ed as in Japan?
Or is it a more accepted as a "Game" through culture?
Huh. Ore no Imouto got a game?
It's actually not that obscure, at least in Japan/among those who keep up with the anime scene or have read the novels. Apparently one of the volumes may have sold the most copies of any light novel in Japan.
@AhmadMetallicNo, but I feel comfortable enough judging this based on the video thumbnail in the OP.@Hailinel said:Do you even know what the game looks like?@AhmadMetallicI wish I could. The number 10 best seller for the week of the 7th of May was "Conception: Please Give Birth to My Child!". It's Japan.
I would play that in a heartbeat. So many weird games that I'll never be able to play due to a language barrier. :(

Yeah, that second half... so heartbreaking. Seeing little Rin growing up and marrying Daikichi?! Nuh-uh, no thanks!

Didn't the anime retcon that whole...thing?

I don't know if it retconned it as much as it just only covered the good part of Usagi Drop!

They said: "We can stop here, before the story jumps 10 years and ruins the whole image of Usagi Drop."

Thank god you guys started reading a manga series that had the premise of a younger sister wanting to have a sexual relationship with her older brother, but were pleasantly surprised that she actually did not want to have sex with her older brother.
It is like this one time I wanted to try this new anime that sounded super cool, but sadly the female protagonist got sexually assaulted 3 times in the first 10 minutes of it. I didn't want to watch it anymore, to which my friend got frustrated that I wouldn't look past the sexual assault because "it totally is not about that, come on". Why can't i just get past the misogyny? I'm really just ruining perfectly good anime and manga for myself.

The culture is extremely different out there. Remember the Illusion games before the US found out and shut them down.
Sounds like you're a bit misinformed:
- The US did nothing. It was Amazon.
- Actually, the US didn't have anything to do with it at all, it was the UK, we just reported on it. They brought it up in parliment though, for some reason.
- Illusion is still making games, they were not shut down. Illusion games were never available for sale in the US, or anyone outside of Japan.
- The offensive games in question were the ones with themes of rape, such as RapeLay and Battle Raper. People were selling them on the Amazon Marketplace before Amazon banned it for sale on their site.
- The only change that happened was that Illusion IP-blocked anyone that had a US address from viewing their website so they couldn't be linked to or criticized so easily by the press.
