The guys blew two categories - New IP and Sky Game

FIrst of all - Best new IP of the year. They claimed they had a good representation across the board.....but not a *single* handheld game (DS, 3DS or PSP) was even mentioned in the deliberation. No Ghost Trick? Completely ridiculous.

Best Sky Game - Relates to the fact that there were no handheld games mentioned. Where was Legend of Heroes-Trails in the Sky

Trails. In. The. Fucking. SKY. Totally sloppy on their part for not including this.

They have said that they don't really have time to cover handheld games all that well, so they weren't really going to include them all that much in the GOTY stuff. Sure, there were some great DS games this year, but the guys didn't really have time to sit down with any of them extensively.

Say what you want about Ghost Trick, it would have at the very least deserved a mention. Trails in the Sky, too. It's a bit sad handhelds are mostly completely overlooked and ridiculed on GB.

With those kinds of glaring oversights I'm not even sure that I should take these game of the year deliberations seriously anymore. I would like to add that it was very unprofessional for the site to select Nolan North as winner of the Northie award, probably the most coveted award in videogame voice acting, so soon after his visit to the office. It's one thing to run a series of features on Bastion and have it remain eligible for the awards many months later, but Nolan North's visit was basically DURING deliberations, and they must have known he had a shot at a Northie. They should have either refused the visit or disqualified him from the award if they want to be taken seriously as serious arbiters of what was best.

This year has really highlighted to me just how flawed the whole process of GOTY awards is. I like Giant Bomb's style of recording the entire decision making process for full edification, because it results in some good podcasting, but maybe the best thing to do is just skip awards altogether. There's just no way to get it right without pissing a ton of people off, especially when a group of five or so people who play a pretty narrow variety of games decide the best of the year.

It's been mentioned plenty of times throughout the years that the Giant Bomb guys don't consider themselves to completely authoritative about all videogames for all people. These are just their opinions based on what they have personally played through the year. Also fuck you go play Call Of Duty let the adults talk, adults who gets pissy about people talking into microphones about what games they like or dislike. Y'know; what adults do. Also Madden and Halo and dudebro ARG BARG BARG AAA TITLES WAHHH.

I know they mentioned they didn't play many handheld games and so they were only going to be in limited capacity this year for the Game Of The Year deliberations. This is why they record their process on narrowing, so there is transparency and you can understand their thought process.

It's not flawed in the slightest. I mean, how can they give their opinions wrong? Is it flawed that L.A Noire wasn't mentioned for best music? Nope. I own that game, and I could not for the life of me tell you anything about its music. It's like ... slow jazz? Or something? I don't know, wasn't memorable to me. They obviously thought the same. It's not a flawed system if their opinions don't match the entire audience of the site. The fact that they can't do it without pissing people off is pretty irrelevent; it's not about pleasing people.

Personally, people who get angry about this stuff just make me laugh. Video games are serious business, eh.

You can't compare non subjective things to subjective things. It's a very bad parallel that maybe sounds nice to you, but actually makes no sense. Art is and will always be subjective, calling the moon a gingerbread house is not you debating art, it's just saying a random thing and pretending like it's an or your opinion. That's like saying calling a female singer a male is the same as saying the song they are singing doesn't appeal to them. It's a nonsensical line of thinking. What you should probably be saying, that would help you make a point better, is that people are entitled to their opinion, but it is also your right to not back down from your own just to let someone have free reign with theirs. Though when it comes to games, I don't know that it's worth even that level of passion.

Quantitive: In my opinion, L.A Noire is a car. This is a wrong opinion.

Qualitative: In my opinion, L.A Noire is not very good. This is neither right nor wrong, as it asseses the quality of a thing which is entirely subjective.

Maybe they're saving the handheld stuff for later? You can't discount that. Just sayin'.

When Resistance 3 should also have been at least a runner up of Best use of 3, it closed a trilogy, it's the best game of the series and it changed a lot since 2, it even ditched the main character. But only Vinny and Brad played resistance 3?, Vinny for sure, but come on.
