VG Girls in Playboy...?
Article 2
So, some video game companies every year, for whatever reason, are willing to trade their dignity for a chance at success by putting one of their leading characters in the magazine. I'm sure many people already know about this, but is this a tactic that actually helps sell the game?
I'm not sure how much of this is really marketing in the traditional sense of "Buy our game!" versus trying to be taken as something mainstream. Playboy, for better or worse, is a pop culture touchstone and as such can get you a certain amount of mass populace cred. Personally, I think it is a larger problem in a culture that still objectifies women, digital or not.
That said, if any girl ever felt like dressing up like Princess Zelda (preferably Twilight Princess style) and getting down, I wouldn't kick her out of bed. And I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Hahaha. Well, there was an article I don't remember (I'll try and find it), but basically stated that some try it to put their game out there, if it hasn't been too successful...That is why I was curious if it actually works.

uh...I gotta go...
EDIT: Actually, follow-up conversation: Would you make sweet sweet love to a lady who was wearing socks?
I don't see anything wrong with it since there is tons and tons of armature cartoon porn on the market. So seeing Ivy or Kasumi's goodies in Playboy is no different than seeing a Girls of James Bond pictorial in my opinion.
There is a fetish for everyone out there...check this one out.

Lol, this isn't a "who would you have sex with thread" its a, "would you buy their game after they get naked thread"...
and yes, I would.

Anyway, if sexy chicks dressed up as game characters is really supposed to be push product....uhhhh, I can't say. I mean, really, its hard to say if Tomb Raider would have done half as well early on without tits. But the marketing at least suggested that was the gateway reason for entry.
Haha, Its cool. But yeah, I'd say Croft is the main reason for Tomb Raiders Success. Even if the more recent games sucked, the eye candy was pleasant. BTW I have never played and beaten a single tomb raider game...that's weird.
What dignity? they are digital.

Let me address the follow-up question first. She could be wearing lederhosen, a hockey mask, rubber gloves, and waders, and if she was willing, I'd probably hit it.
Now, on topic... Playboy gets around, so I'm sure the pics perk up at least a little attention outside of the game's normal audience. However, that being said, I wonder how many non-gamers would find that sort of thing attractive enough to warrant checking out the information attached. It's hard for me to judge, since I'm a gamer, but it would seem like a pretty big waste of space if it's not something the mainstream would find attractive.
Then again, digital or not, sex sells. And if Playboy moves a ton of copies, somewhere down the line, it should boost sales at least a little.
No I don't think it will boost game sales. At all. However, it may cause a minuscule jump in that month's magazine sales. I figure most of the people interested in those pics will be able to scrounge the internet for them.
Personally, I don't read the Playboy and I've never bought a game just because it had characters in it I found attractive so this wouldn't get me interested at all. However, if a character that I find attractive from a game/franchise that I'm already familiar with (let's say... Kasumi from DOA) gets printed nude in the Playboy, I'd probably pick up the magazine for collective purposes. I certainly wouldn't get it for other reasons because there's plenty of material on the net already.
Are you personally buying playboy? No probably (becouse of the internet of course).
Than why should you care about what people with playboy watch?
Oh, I have no problem with it at all. I was just curious if this is a legitimate sales tactic...
They have put Video Game Vixens in Playboy before. Nothing new.
Does anyone remember the Videogame Vixen awards that were on G4 back in the day? Creepy shit!
