What is the best video game soundtrack?

Some of my favorites are Diablo 2, Banjo-Kazooir, Banjo-Tooie, Mass Effect, Bastion, Warcraft 3, and Skyrim.

Gotta give it to Jet Set Radio Future, here. Too many memories locked up in that for it to be any other way.

I'm gonna go with Jet Set Radio : Future

Chrono Trigger or Chono Cross. I guess my nostalgia for those games makes me say that, but the sound tracks to those games made them even better.

Nier has one hell of a great soundtrack as well.

Oh and Mega Man 2's soundtrack. You can't go wrong with that game.

I really liked God of War's soundtrack, also Super Meatboy has a great soundtrack.

SotC for me.

Sonic 2.

Final Fantasy Tactics.

Bastion's soundtrack absolutely blew me away. I honestly didn't expect the soundtrack to be of that high quality despite the praise it was getting. Amazing soundtrack.

But my favourite is Baten Kaitos' for the Gamecube. Because I really fucking like guitar solos in boss battles.

Honorable mention to Secret of Mana too. That has some tremendous songs on it.

I've always been fond of the Earthbound soundtrack, But like 90% of that music is sampling other songs.

I recall God Hand having some good songs.

And of course Persona 3/4.

I like seeing the huge variety in people's choices. This is hard to narrow down, but off the top of my head I'll say Xenogears.

All I listen to are flower, Journey, flOw (in a way), and the Metal Gear franchise. Maybe not the only things, but definitely recurring things.

There are only a handful of people on here who will know what I'm talking about, but Turrican 2 soundtrack is still the best soundtrack I've ever heard, Chris Huelsbeck defined what was the 90's European game soundtrack.

Kingdom Hearts 2 or Final Fantasy X

Shatter, Mega Max X, Metal Gear Solid and Halo are probably my favorites.

Chrono Trigger, SoTC, earn honorable mentions

I still love Ocarina's and Majora's soundtrack, but Dustforce is pretty awesome too. The best Video Game Theme Music is still Monkey Island's though, at least as far as I'm concerned

Super Meat Boy's music is great, Human Revolution is amazing, the Assassin'S Creed games too, Rayman Origins is fantastic...damn

Oh damn, Metroid Prime might take the cake, I freaking love the music in Prime 1

Persona 4 is on my iPod and I've played it a lot but the best in my opinion would be Knights of the Old Republic or Bully.

There's ton of good soundtracks out there from my early days with the C64 to recent times, in recent times however Module's Shatter soundtrack is my favorite.

The first ones to jump to my mind were Bully and Bionic Commando Rearmed.

I'm not really into epic or sweeping scores. They are admirable but not memorable to me. Stuff with character stands out a lot more.

Persona 4 is a really good example too. And that Diddy Kong song is blowing my mind a little bit.

The only game I bought for the Wii ( my sister's Wii ) was Umbrella Chronicles. T'was meh . But the soundtrack , I really like it .

I just finished RE Zero and RE remake (jill) for the first time just last week. I plan on finishing RE code veronica and RE remake (chris) before halloween this year.

^^ Um. I'd go for either Monkey Island's remake or Shining Force 2's battle music/"Dwarf" theme. :) I have odd tastes.

Not a single mention of Cave Story? I guess I like that game slightly more than I should.

Honourables: Bastion is ridiculous, Shatter is wonderful, Locks Quest had one or 2 cool tracks, as did Metroid Prime. Also anything Danny B or Disasterpiece touches.

Wall of text I know, I'm not sure what my favorite would be though... So just take all of that as my answer. :D

I've probably listened to the MadWorld soundtrack the most but I can't and won't pick favorites. There's just so much amazing music. Dawn of War, Etrian Odyssey...

Not sure about "the best", but I really like Nier's soundtrack.

Red Dead Redemption is just so perfect.

My favorite is Arcanum: Of Steamworks And Magic Obscura, it has a fantastic soundtrack that fits the world to a T.

Hitman: Contracts comes to mind.

To date, the only game soundtracks I own are Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Persona 4, and Ocarina of Time. Of those, I'd have to say FFVIII is my favorite of the lot. Some really great tracks in there.

Jesper Kyde can not be beaten. Hitman Bloodmoney was good, but K&L: Dead Men still holds as my favorite. It works absolutely perfect with the game.

Cave Story's soundtrack is excellent!

Although I think I'd have to go with either Ocarina of Time or the original Sonic Set (Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles) from the Genesis. Although that could just be a nostalgia thing as well.
