If this topic already exists, feel free to point me in that direction. Basically, exactly what the topic says -- what's the earliest game you remember playing? I feel that this often ties in to some pretty interesting "how I got into video games" stories.

For me, it was Desert Strike for the Genesis. I remember sitting in the living room of my parents' first house (I was born in '94 and we lived there until around 2000, so I was likely between 4-6) playing it with my dad. It's funny, because I really don't have too many vivid memories from that time period (which I'm sure isn't exactly uncommon), but I will always remember that game. My dad and I still play games together whenever I make it home. I'm sure there were many other games we played in that era, but DS will forever be the one I associate with starting that tradition.

I've seen them play it on the site before, but it was some weird portable version of this game that was ONLY THIS game. You are a car, on a scrolling highway, shooting other cars and dodging objects. The camera is behind the car, it's pretty sporty (like any late-80s/early 90s) video game car and I'm pretty sure the screen was attached to a racing wheel and gear shift. THAT GAME WAS DOPE.

The first game with a name I can remember playing was Asteroids on a computer, though I couldn't tell you the year or place. Likey the same time. The first game I had in my home was Contra III: Alien Wars with an SNES in a room with no carpet or seats, and the protective track in the doorway had been removed so nails were sticking out of the floor that you had to be careful of on your way in. Even at five years old I considered it mental preperation for the hell of war I was entering (Super Mario World was also in that room, and it was cute as a button).

I played some game around 1996 where you shot an arrow from left to the right of the screen to pop flying water balloons?

For me it was a knock-off of Excite Bike on a knock-off NES I got for christmas.

It was in one of those "100 games in one" cartridges, and that cartridge was the only thing I played for about 2 or 3 years.

I think the first one I definitely played was the PlayStation demo version of Crash Bandicoot.

I think the earliest I remember and know the name for is Chuckie Egg.

Couldn't tell you the very first, but one of the first was Super Solvers: OutNumbered!. Played the hell out of that game. It was no Number Munchers, but then, what is?

I think the first game I ever played was a "light gun game" in 1975/76. It was a black pistol that I shot a a B/W Tv screen. It was owned by my father friend who was an electrical engineer at Raytheon. I think he made it from a kit because it looked weird. There were a lot of "light gun" kits sold in catalogs in the 1970s. I remember playing that light-gun game after we watched "Starsky & Hutch".

Interstellar Assault, for the Game Boy. I was five years old, or very close to it. My Dad brought it home after work - he got it used somewhere - and gave it to me and I played it almost constantly for ages. I ran through tons of batteries. They got a SNES that Christmas, I wouldn't doubt it if they got me the SNES at least in part so they wouldn't have to buy so many goddamn batteries for the Game Boy. The SNES came with the original Donkey Kong Country and they got me Super Mario Kart at some point. I remember putting Mario Kart into the SNES and finally getting a game started and then being stumped at how to make the Kart go.

...but then I saw the picture for Super Metroid on the back of the SNES box and I was like "I want that" and that concerned my parents because I was more interested in the darker-colored, lonely game than all the other bright and colorful games. But I spent an entire year begging them to get it and finally got it the next Christmas. I have a pretty vivid memory of playing that game the first day I got it.

I cant recall if I had played an arcade game before that point, but I think the earliest game I played or saw may have been Smurf for the Atari 2600 at random persons house. Christ I would have been about 4 years old. Remember being fairly impressed and must have nagged my dad for an Atrai as Im pretty sure we got one soon after. Not that I bought that game though lol. Recall owning Pac Man, Out Law, Tunnel Runner, Missile Command, Defender.

Probably PC ports of either Pac-Man or Space Invaders that my dad had on his computer, but my earliest clear memory is Tiger-Heli on the NES. I instantly wanted a Nintendo after seeing that hot banger.

Pokemon Red, but I know for a fact the first game I ever got was a god awful Rugrats: The Movie game for the GBC when I was 5 or 6 years old. I guess it was so terrible that I blocked that out of my memory haha.

It was either Donkey Kong for the Coleco Vision, Pitfall! for the Atari 2600, or the arcade version of Berzerk. I feel like I should know which game I played first but for some reason all these memories blurred together.

Super Mario Bros on an NES in what would've been like 1989, or 1990ish.

... and yes, it was in a basement...

Something on my uncle's Sharp MZ-721 in the mid 80's. Not sure about the specific game, maybe Centipede or a Ski Jump game?

The original Civilization. Was only 5 when it came out in '91, my dad had a copy for his MS-DOS PC. I watched him play it a few times and figured out how to launch it myself.

My parents bought me a SNES shortly after that.

Some Kool-Aid Man game on the atari I think it was. I remember the box art of him breaking through some family's wall. There was also a racing game with only one lane and you had to jump over cars ahead of you at the right time or you lost. I think.

Space Invaders, Asteroids, Rip Off. Must have been around 1977/1978.

Same, only probably a few years later around the time of Pac-Man, which would have made it 1980. I then got the Astro Wars machine for Christmas while my friend got a ZX81 from his rich parents.

I got a ZX81 for my next birthday and spent a few years watching question marks chasing asterisks around the screen in silence.

I held a fondness for Astro Wars for a few years until I found out it was an utter rip off of Moon Cresta, and my allegiance switched.

It was either Tetris for the Gameboy or Sonic the Hedgehog. My mother and older brother play games so i've been playing them for as long as I can remember.

I also have weird vague memories of Burnin' Rubber for some reason.

EDIT: It was probably because the engine noise scarred my brain. Enjoy!
