Poll Who is your favorite Giant Bomb writer? (454 votes)

Ryan Davis 2%
Jeff Gerstmann 19%
Patrick Klepek 17%
Alex Navarro 36%
Matt Rorie 5%
Brad Shoemaker 11%
See Results 10%

Even though the video content on the site is where I imagine most of the traffic goes, I thought there should be a thread showing some love for the written word. I think it's great how each editor contributes articles differently such as Alex's Sunday column or Patrick's in-depth interviews. It will be interesting to see how the news is handled once Patrick's in Chicago.

So who is your favorite writer? For me it's Alex handily; I think he consistently puts out articles that I'm interested in reading and the way he writes is the most engaging. I also like Jeff's concise way of writing reviews, something that I think is mostly lost in the age of infinite scrolling. Brad might be a close second favorite, but he seems to only focus on writing reviews which is a shame because I think he's probably the most eloquent writer on staff and I'd love to see some sort of non-review feature from him.

I'm sure they probably have the numbers that show that written stuff isn't a good use of everyone's time, but it would be great to see some articles from all of the bombers at least occasionally.

I think they're all good writers, but I enjoy Jeff's "voice" the most.

Alex's writing is so good I wonder why his speech is directly in contrast with it. Ryan is okay too. Jeff writing is honest with almost no flair. Straight-up and direct to the point. It's nice to have diverse writing styles between the bomb crew.

Alex and Patrick are both great writers but I really enjoy Alex's measured snark so he gets my vote. Jeff and Ryan are fantastic speakers and their talents really shine on camera or behind a mic. Brad... Well Brad is a good writer, a great speaker when he needs to be (ie. great in interviews), and uh... well out of the front-line crew he's definitely got the looks. I like Rorie but honestly haven't read enough of work to really form an opinion.

Rorie and Alex are the best IMO.

Nothing against him, and not taking any of his subject matter into account: I think Patrick is the worst from a pure word choice/sentence structure perspective.

Apart from that Rock Band piece, I have usually enjoyed reading "The Guns of Navarro".

Alex is the best writer. He's capable of projecting a strong voice without sounding self-important the way Patrick's articles sometimes get. Also that 30 days of hate thing he did for Screened is so great. Just... pure human misery and rage in eloquent written form. Jeff's writing is to-the-point and efficient, and Brad writes like he graduated with an English Degree, which is to say quite well.

I really enjoy reading Ryan's reviews.

Ryan Davis writes reviews?

Patrick with Rorie probably second. I like Alex's writing but... Alex kinda gets on my nerves a bit. I hate saying that because I think he does a great job but I just don't think our personalities match up.

I hate Alex' apparent negative slant on everything. It is draining. 90% of the articles he writes are bad news articles or his opinion of a game he has seen/played which he dislikes.

That's not even a question, Alex. Brad is a close second.
But I think Alex could write about the sleeping process of the south-russian white naked mole rat and I would enjoy reading it.

Brad is probably the most straight to the point, cut out the fat writer on the staff, which is what I'm down with. He's clear and concise. Alex is pretty good too, albeit a tad too snarky too often. Might have something to do with the fact that he's always reviewing bad games though, so who knows?

Brad's writing is always a pleasure to read.

Jeff and Alex write how they talk, so those are entertaining reads too.

Patrick's interviews (like all those Walking Dead ones) are his highlights for me.

Unfortunately it's been so long since I've read anything Ryan or Vinny put out. Video content is obviously a big thing here, but I wouldn't mind seeing Ryan or Vinny write about some games they're playing or projects they're working on. Maybe in blog form or as a feature. In fact I think I'd enjoy it!

Haven't read much Rorie stuff either! Now that he's on board maybe we'll get some reviews for games the frequent reviewers aren't interested in.

I enjoy Jeff's writing, but I think Alex is clearly the best.

This was about playing favorites, though, and so Jeff wins again in my book.

It's also worth mentioning that in terms of content, Patrick would be the winner in my opinion.

Jeff is the best at spewing truth out of his face hole, Patrick has the most journalistic writing, and Alex probably has the most entertaining writing on the site.

Alex and Jeff are the most fun to read and I normally read their stuff regardless of if care about the subject.

Patrick is good, but I'm more likely to read his stuff if I care about the subject.

I don't like Brad's writing at all.

Small off-topic: Is anyone else tired with the overly cynical and sarcastic titles of articles and videos? Especially Alex likes to prove that he doesn't really gives a fuck and he saw everything.

It's not even a competition really; Alex is easily the best writer on the site.

Surprised to see all the praise for Jeff, as I've always felt his writing is a little flat. No one's better on camera though.

Alex is the best writer. For the E3 coverage I'm hoping for a few interviews in which case Jeff is the best guy for the job. :)

Alex's writing is some captivating stuff. I always looks forward to his reviews and articles. As someone who wishes he could've been a writer I really look up to his style. Ryan and Jeff are pretty good but I can't help but hear their zoo crew radio voices whenever I read their stuff and it almost comes off as insincere.

Nobody else on staff comes close to Alex, he's just that consistently good if you look at his history of articles. I wish he had the opportunity to be more involved on this site.

Alex is way too snarky for me. I do think some of his recent Sunday columns have been pretty great, but other than that, he kind of grates on me a bit. I think my pick for this is two-fold. I think Patrick is the best at writing news, but in terms of enjoyment, my pick is probably Jeff. I like how he puts his humor in his articles, and they are always worth a few friendly chuckles. Exhibit A: Triple H's hair. I also find his reviews to be the most balanced, just in terms of tone and attitude. Very professional, but not in a bad sense. Brad dips too much into hyperbole, Ryan doesn't review enough, Patrick usually just leans towards quirky/niche things, and Alex is again either too sarcastic or is just constantly saddled with bad games.
