Why are there no games where the americans are bad guys?

  Why are the Russians always the bad guys? Even in non american-made titles like vanquish, the russians are always the evil opposing force.
 
 
Yet united states is no different they are just as aggressive and more greedy but never get this view in a game.

Honestly though,  I think it is basically a matter of America still being one of the world's main superpowers, many developers don't consider American villains "relevant".

Cause whoever made us the bad guys, we'd call terrorists. 

Play Red Dead Redemption. You can kill helluva American-ass Americans in there.

Because the US represents a large portion of the people buying the game. My guess is that developers are afraid that no one in the states will buy it because they don't like being painted as the bad guy. But what do I know.

I'm guessing we'll have another shitstorm if we can shoot americans.

I can't think of any games that actively say "These people vs. America", but there are plenty of games set in America and we kill each other.

Modern Warfare 2... sort of.

As for why, well its because the largest market is the United States and many games are made by American developers. Just like how a Japanese developer would make their game Japanese.

Well there are plenty of games where American society as a whole is targeted, and by many games I mean GTA exists. But storytelling isn't a videogame's strong point so many games will stick to the stock allegiances because it is easy for them.

In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 if you side with Captain America, strangely enough makes Americans the bad guys, if only briefly

Both Dead Rising games have some sneaky anti-americanism in them. At least, that's what I interpreted it as. And Assassin's Creed 2 mixes some in when it delves into conspiracies.

I thought we were discussing the enemy as a whole, not each soldier's personal background.

Anyway look at that whole fiasco with MOH, that's why... developers don't want that negative press and headache in the biggest game market. Not to mention all those soccer moms complaining find it perfectly acceptable to kill Russians, Germans, Native Americans, Koreans and Mexicans but it's not ok when it's Americans.. heh.

I think it's bullshit that we're always the good guys. I'd like to see a game that showcases our true colors. The entire country isn't bad but most of the Top Men are conniving.

OP is pretty oblivious I think.  There are plenty of games with American villains already named in this thread.  I am a bit sick of Russian villains though.

Well, most games that put America in a negative light target cultural stuff over military, because then its intellectual instead of gratuitous, anti-american violence in the eyes of the american public
 
Almost forgot, if you played Mercs 2: World in Flames, you can totally side with  China and fight the UN forces, which is basically the American army

The US is the biggest market. That's what sells the most copies. And that the end of that. If no one or like 1% of people who buys games in the US now bought games now and 90% of all game sales happened in Russia you'd always have the Russians as the good guys and have someone else as the bad guys.

Just going off the top of my head for games I own: 
Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2: kill hella American zombies and psychopaths, and also fight the American military in the first one. 
Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2: kill hella American zombies. 
Modern Warfare 2: the Americans are secretly the bad guys. 
Civilization 5: you can fight George Washington and the American army. 
Grand Theft Auto 1, III, Vice City, San Andreas, IV: the "bad guys" are American.

I wish more games took the risk to exaggerate America's flaws satirically, like Dead Rising1/2 and CoD4. It's original, and sheaths off some slack from other countries that get it up the ass from some Tom Clancy inspired developers.
