As in the writing and not so much the acting. (but sure if the acting made it worse)

I have to say it's one god awful line from Far Cry 3's lovely protagonist Jason. "His name is Buck and he likes to f..." *in a slight southern accent*. Oh my fucking christ. Doesn't help that the game plays it every time you load back to that checkpoint. I facepalm and give a deep sigh every fucking time. Line's so fucking horrible I want to run Jason into a flaming weed field. FUCK.

oh ya, what's your pick? Any line so bad it stuck with you for a long time?

Probably something from the very first Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Gerbil sandwich; master of unlocking; it's a weapon, it's REALLY powerful, especially against living things ect. ect.

@Yummylee: Saw the topic and immediately came to post that; obviously you stole my idea, I demand satisfaction.

Anyway some of these are pretty great, the yellow blood line in particular.

It's from Resident Evil. I guess there's nothing especially standout in Silent Hill, it's mostly the voice acting that's hilariously bad.

It seems unfair to name a game that was written in a foreign language and then translated into English, especially since publishers really cheaped out when it came to the translations back in the day. That's not bad writing, just a bad translation.

One that comes to mind is in Monkey Island, which is a great and often extremely hilarious game, but some of the humor is pretty labored. And the worst example is Otis's line: "If there's one kind of piracy I don't like, it's CONSpiracy." Even in text form, it's such a forced non-pun, I mean piracy and conspiracy aren't pronounced even remotely the same way. Always hated that line.

@Kevin_Cogneto: Yeah, I guess you're right. Though that DMC line sounds like it's the product of terribly melodramatic writing more than a translation goof.

@themangalist: I'm pretty sure the Buck line was a reference to the first Kill Bill film. Not that it fully redeems it, but still.

The first line that came to mind, whilst not the worst ever, makes me laugh when I hear it.

In Metal Gear Solid 2, after you swim through the corridors with Emma Emmerich, Raiden calls Colonel Campbell and says...

It's just the delivery. Following that up with Campbell's "Good job" just tops it off perfectly for me.

Obviously it was intended to be Jill sandwich, but even in the proper game it sounds much more like jiggle or gerbil sandwich, so that's how I've always recognised the line.

Rather than a single line, i'd like to submit an entire scene. I played through Dino Crisis 2 a few months ago and this moment stuck with me, and will always stick with me. Strongest bromance in any game.

I suppose "I'll save you bro." is the highlight.

I think it sounds like he says Jill, you're just crazy. You're mistaking a laugh midway through the word with something else.

Goddamn these are bad. Ugh. I'm adding "what the foxtrot" to this.

The one thing that stopped me from headbutting my screen was Jeff's raucous laughter.

Resident Evil 4 definitely has some pretty awful lines. ''Where's everybody going? Bingo?'', ''Saddler, you're small time'' and ''Your right hand comes off...?'' are the three most egregiously bad lines of dialogue. There's also MGS4's ''You were the lightening in that rain. You can still shine through the darkness'' when Snake's trying to pep-talk mopy, emo Raiden.

@Baillie: Nuh-uh, you're just crazy you crazy. You can very clearly hear ''ble'' at the end there. Plus that isn't even the only occasion where Barry's voice actor mispronounces his dialogue. There's his infamous ''Oh my cod!'' as well.

Also everything that falls out of T.K. and those hyper-sexualised twins' mouths in Dead Rising 2 is rather awful.

edit: Oh, and everything in Valkyria Chronicles, too. Both the writing and the characters are so bad that it would at times ruin the entire game for me.

Dante's just got an entire repertoire of shitty one liners right up to this new one. Everything that is uttered out of his mouth is of varying degrees of bad, only some of it is good-bad. But most of it is bad-bad.

Knew i heard it somewhere before... but still doesn't take away the awfulness of when I heard it in game. In Kill Bill's context it makes sense- a cheesy sick bastard, in FC3 without knowing (or remembering in my case) the reference made it sound ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

:-) Came here to post the Buck line. I understood it was a reference right away. I also understood it held no bearing to anything, broke the narrative as Jason should not have known this, and honestly was a stupid line in Kill Bill. Plus hearing it every time I started the game... So how about another from Far Cry 'This is all me!'
