Oatmeal is ok, but Cheerios usually start my morning. I guess it depends on my mood.

It is, do you know what a cereal is?

  –noun
1.
any plant of the grass family yielding an edible grain, as wheat, rye, oats, rice, or corn.
2.
the grain itself.
3.
some edible preparation of it, esp. a breakfast food.

So how are oats, by any definition, not a cereal? "
I wouldn't call oatmeal a cereal because I've never heard anyone ever call oatmeal a cereal.

Doesn't matter what you call it, the FACT is that it IS a cereal. Even before it hits the box, while it's still growing in the field, it's called CEREAL. Why? Because Cereal is a type of GRAIN. It is NOT a breakfast brand.

I'd like you to bold the part of my post where I tried to claim that oatmeal was not a cereal.

You won't find one, because I never made such a claim. I merely said that I wouldn't call it one. So I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here.
