Arizona rules because of this
I don't support illegal immigration, but I feel compassion towards the people that resort to it. Most of these people just want their families to have better lives. Too bad nobody tells them the economy here is probably worse off than their home land's.
As a random tidbit.
When I was at Fort Knox for Cavalry Scout training, we had a Mexican gentlemen that went into the Army to gain citizenship. I don't know the details, but he failed some U.S. citizenship qualification standard, so the government said if he joined the Army he can be an American.
This is pretty sad, that you list this as a reason Arizona rocks.
Now in California, we have this man as our governor.
Yeah thats pretty badass. Say what you will about how California is doing, hell everyone is doing bad. But I don't think the Russian's Sarah Palin watches out for would fuck with us knowing he's in the driver's seat.
@EpicSteve:
I think it's pretty amazing and a testament to this country how lots of people, not born here, will join the military and defend this country so they can be accepted. Speaks to their determination and loyalty to this country and how great America is. Except for Arizona. Let them be in the confederacy for all I care.
...Ummm, they have been getting a break. Now it is time for the law." Sigh, poor immigrants when will they get a break. "
The only possible problem I see with this is if they bypass due process. I would hate to see legal Americans being shipped out. Otherwise, I don't see a real problem with this. I mean, they are breaking the law...

At least America has immigration laws that allow people to come here and become Americans. From my understanding, Europe has the Nationality Law, though I don't really know a lot about it - only that you are whatever you can trace.
I'm embarrassed to be an Arizonan right now.
I'm also half Mexican so If I get pulled over for no reason when this law comes into effect I'll be even more pissed off. Thanks to racial profiling I've already gotten pulled over once this year for no legitimate reason, the cop openly admitted that because I was Mexican and because I had a duffel bag in my back seat, he wanted to check If I had any drugs. I didn't do anything because it was my first time ever getting pulled over, so I was nervous (and it was scary.) Now this shit is gonna legitimize that behavior. Thanks Arizona!

I'm going to feel bad for my friends because they're going to be pulled over just because they're Mexican. Way to go, Jan Brewer.
Because it's causing 10's of thousands of illegals to leave their state. People who only pay into the system with sales tax on the things they buy are a huge drain on an already shitty state economy. Unfortunately for some this is just a chance to look down on nonwhites but those people are scumbags with or without this. (Just to be clear i'm talking about the people looking down when I throw the insult incase some idiot quotes me and doesn't have any reading comprehension.)" This law is disgusting. How could anyone want this? "
In an ideal world becoming a legitimate citizen would be much easier, and the penalties for being here illegally would be much harsher.

Dirtbag cops pull over hispanics/african american's all the time for bullshit already. All this does is actually possibly have a positive outcome of a douchebag cops actions.
HOW THE FUCK DO ANY OF YOU SEE ANY GOOD IN THIS LAW? IT IS BOGGLING MY FUCKING MIND RIGHT NOW, NEARLY AS MUCH AS ARIZONA ITSELF.
" HOW THE FUCK DO ANY OF YOU SEE ANY GOOD IN THIS LAW? IT IS BOGGLING MY FUCKING MIND RIGHT NOW, NEARLY AS MUCH AS ARIZONA ITSELF. "Why is it insane to you that some people would like less illegals in their state? If it was up to me it would be restricted to anyone already arrested, and if they are illegal deport them swiftly and cheaply. The law has the right idea with the wrong semantics.
" @Ariketh said:Most of what you said sounds pretty outlandish to me. By your logic, that means you are pro-drug dealers and pro-rape - though I doubt you actually support that." @Mr_Faraday said:Fuuuuckkk...what a stupid argument My guess is that you would oppose slaves trying to escape the South in 1803 amirite? I mean by law, they couldn't run away. I'm assuming you would want due process for those who would drink alcohol in the 1920's, since it was illegal? If it was illegal to NOT go to church on Sunday, would you advocate punishment for them? Obviously, arguing morality from law is reserved for the insane. So that makes me wonder, why do you have your particular standpoint on "illegals"? "...Ummm, they have been getting a break. Now it is time for the law." Sigh, poor immigrants when will they get a break. "

Just because I oppose illegal immigrants coming into America does not mean that I am pro-slavery, pro-church, or any of that other stuff. Actually, I am fairly anti-slavery and anti-church. I simply believe that it would do this country good to get rid of the slaves - I mean illegal immigrants. Americans and legal immigrants could be doing those jobs and getting paid...
Also, by due process, I mean doing a check to see if these people are legal/Americans or not. Nothing more.
Arizona should just make all legal Hispanics a star to wear on their chests so the police know who is legal and who isn't...err..think someone tried something similar already and didn't work out so well...
Anyways, if they really wanted to get serious about illegal immigration they would start targeting corporations and buisnesses that hire illegals in the first place. These people are coming to America to work and make money to send back home to Mexico, you take that away then the illegal population would go down quite alot. Or the other option would be for the locals to start working for less and under worse conditions than the illegals, that would be the capitalist solution =D
" Also, by due process, I mean doing a check to see if these people are legal/Americans or not. Nothing more. "What does "doing a check" constitute? A background check? Or questioning every tan person you see, asking to see their papers, and taking them to jail if they can't reproduce them? This law promotes and encourages profiling. It is amoral and unjust. Illegal immigration is a problem, but to fix it by pulling over every Mexican looking person on the grounds that they look a certain way is insane. It's a witch hunt. It is akin to what happened in Salem in the 17th century and the Japanese in the 20th. Fuck Arizona and their fascist law. Can't believe some of the same people who support this law are the ones who call Obama a socialist. Christ all-fucking-mighty.

" The Arizona bill would require anyone whom police suspect of being in the country illegally to produce 'an alien registration document.'"
" @bhhawks78: Explain to me what this implies, bhhawks: " The Arizona bill would require anyone whom police suspect of being in the country illegally to produce 'an alien registration document.'" "Maybe you should read the whole thread, it's only 2 damn pages. You'd know I don't like the semantics of the bill, but agree with the intentions. Like I said before cops would do this to ANYONE who is ARRESTED of any race, if they are illegal boot em the fuck out. Then steadily increase criminalization and fines of those who hire illegals.
Exactly. This is not about racial profiling. It is about Americans wanting their jobs back. The media is simply trying to stir you up. It is sorta their job..." @mikeeegeee said:

We are in an economic crisis, and I could see this being a possible solution. I am not saying it is the best course of action, but even Obama acknowledged that he has not been handling the illegal immigrants problem very well. I like Obama and think he is doing a fine job (though it is hard to do worse than Bush), but this is an issue that has slipped under the radar for too long.
"Doing a check" means basically what you just said - except America is a little more high tech than you might think. A police officer can put your ID into a computer in their car and pull up your records.
I can't say I'm in favor of this. I'm not sure why you'd think this makes them rule. I'd be ashamed if I lived in Arizona.
More Politically Motivated Racial Profiling, exactly what America needs right now. Good one Republicans. God. /shakes head in disbelief.
What I love is how so many rich/upper middle class white people in AZ are happy to have Mexicans working for them paid in low sums of cash, often with full knowledge that they're illegal immigrants but rarely seem to support the idea that these people are allowed to legitimize themselves as eventual American citizens. Seems George Carlin was right, it's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.
It's only racial profiling to people assuming all illegal immigrants are Hispanic. That is racist... You do realize that other races/countries have illegals in America too, right?" More Politically Motivated Racial Profiling, exactly what America needs right now. Good one Republicans. God. /shakes head in disbelief. "
Edit: sorry, I'm trolling. I recognize it. Clearly we disagree. The state of Arizona has its head up its ass. You'd think a team of legislators could come up with something more intelligent than this.
Companies that have been hiring illegal immigrants for a long period of time would be accustomed to seeing a certain amount of profit. They would either have to raise the prices on the self for their products to reflect an increase in labor costs or what would stop them moving the company to Mexico? Money is the only thing that matters where corporations are concerned.
" @bhhawks78 said:If this was enacted in Norcal people would cry it's persecuting asians, if it was enacted in Rhode Island people would cry it's racist against Italians and the Irish. The race card playing here is shameless and just makes the people that actually hate Hispanics feel legitimized unfortunately. Guess what our two neighbor countries are Mexico and Canada. Mexico is by far the poorer of the two, it's simple logic that many/most of the illegals especially in the south west are from there.Exactly. This is not about racial profiling. " @bhhawks78: Ya know, I get it. I really wanted this country to be a safer place, so the government decided it was okay to wire tap our phones. Voila. Safer. The ends justify the means, don't they? "Hell no, illegals and the economy have NOTHING to do with wire taps and safety, stop pulling bullshit arguments from nowhere. Here it's my turn if you're playing the race card here you must think pedophiles should be allowed to rape children.

Whether this leads to racial profiling or not, I don't get where some people are thinking this somehow legalizes the act. The law is meant to deport illegal immigrants, regardless of their race or nation of origin. It just happens that Arizona is on the border with Mexico, and a lot of Mexicans cross the border illegally through that state. And frankly, despite the tone and possible effectiveness or lack thereof, I have no problem with Arizona's lawmakers doing this. They're making at least some form of formal effort to combat illegal immigration, which the federal government has done absolutely jack shit about.
All I hear from Washington on the matter is a lot of people saying "Shame on you" without actually providing anything constructive, like, you know, workable alternatives.

Yup, that is the problem with this law passing, total infringement on peoples freedoms. Honestly, not to overstate it, but it is not good if people need to carry identification on them at all times just to prove they are citizens. Of course people will say that it's not a big deal if you are legal, but it is just creating a life of paranoia for legal immigrants in Arizona, that as citizens they shouldn't have to live under.
" @bhhawks78 said:You clearly have a reading comprehension problem because I repeatedly said I agree with the intention but not the semantics of the bill, I guess there's no use talking to someone who just spouts random cliche's and can't read." @mikeeegeee said:I recognize that the anecdote is unrelated. I am tired of the race card... why can't people see beyond ethnicity?
The bill isn't perfect, true, but at least it is a start.
