Any Punk fans on Giant Bomb?
What do you think is the best punk band not formed in the 70s? So no Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols ect.
Personally I am a huge Rancid fan, they would be my pick. Though I also love Green Day, Social Distortion, and Dead Kennedys.
Best Punk Band Formed After the 1970s.
I think the Alkaline Trio is pretty good. I don't know if anyone else would consider these punk bands but I Flogging Molly and The Drop Kick Murphys.
Don't take it the wrong way but as a punk fan I seriously want to smash my guitar on top of your head for even putting Green Day *pukes in his mouth* in the same sentence with Social Distortion and DK's." " @Damotello said:That they do, I like to wallow in a pool of it's awesomeness." Fugazi fugazi fugazi. Edit: Also, Botch. It could be argued that they're more of a metal band then punk, I'd consider them hardcore punk. "Botch does the best version of Rock Lobster ever. "
To me punk doesn't really exist outside of a short time period. I mean think about actual punk bands like Suicide, Television, Talking Heads, Joy Division and Wire, those are all big, influential punk bands that sound nothing like what is called punk today. In the 70's punk was a scene more than a style really, and once it became an actual style they kind of chose the worst aspects to focus on.
That said, if you want to count them, Pixies were pretty fucking awesome.
Does Gallows count?

Dezerter. Yeah, the Polish one.

And hardcore punk is better than old school punk.
I love punk rock. While the scene might seem stale to outsiders and dropouts, the international DIY community is strong as fuck, with a shitton of good bands releasing albums and touring the world. Here's my current favorite straight up punk bands atm:
Criminal Damage, from Portland, USA:
and the Assassinators, from Denmark:
Both bands have good lyrics, a strong melodic touch and put on awesome shows. Whether you're into the most underground DIY scene or only know punk from the radio you'll probably enjoy these bands.
Oh, wait, DK's aren't an option?
...that pretty much just leaves Green Day, The Offspring, Social Distortion and Against Me! Rise Against is okay too, I guess.
Not that big a punk fan outside of the 1970's stuff. It starts getting overly hardcore for the most part after The Sex Pistols came about.
OH, SHIT. I just remembered that The Dropkick Murphys exist. /endthread.
