For those of you of age...
I know I love having a couple of beers while I'm gaming. Does anyone else feel like having a drink while gaming is the perfect compliment or do you prefer to have all of your wits about you and go at it stone cold sober?
Do you drink and game?
I typically never drink unless I'm out with friends, but sometimes that leads to drunken Rock Band marathons. Which, you know, always hilarious.
If there's a bunch of us, then sure. Tend to get rather passionately angry over being shot, whereas alcohol will smooth it out to my simply finding it hilarious. Far more socially acceptable than slamming your controller down a friend's throat
Most of the time when I drink with some buddies we end up playing Super Smash Bros or NFL Blitz for the N64. Sometimes when I get drunk I get the urge to play some random games online, and that doesn't always end well... but I have fun in the process!
I like having some whiskey on the rocks while playing certain games. Depends the game really, online fps I never drink, takes too much precision! But playing an RPG or something I enjoy a drink.
There are some really fun drinking games that can be played in conjunction with video games. Super Smash Bros Power Hour (Set Lives to Unlimited and Time to 60 minutes, take a shot of beer on every minute mark, no pausing the game, you need to grab your own beers and pour your own shots) is a bunch of fun. My housemates and I also used to do this type of Soul Calibur tournament where the winner of each match would take a shot and pass the controller while the loser would keep playing. Eventually, no matter how bad you are at the game, you win.
That being said, no, I don't mix my vices. I drink only occasionally, and generally don't binge when I do.
I might get something here or there. Probably the funniest moment was when I drank two huge cups of Long Island Ice Tea, not realizing how much alcohol was in it, and then convinced by guild members to tank an instance for them. I didn't let anybody die but man, that was the funniest and most difficult time I ever had trying to keep people alive, tank bosses and try to keep myself alive at the same time but I was giggling like crazy as my head swayed side to side, trying to keep myself balanced in my chair. After the instance run, I logged off and went to bed.
Drinking can be fun. Just, you know, don't go crazy and be irresponsible.
I like having a couple beers while gaming sometimes, but it's not really necessary to the experience. Oftentimes I get too involved to even remember I have a beer open so it's kind of pointless.
I'm much more likely to have a few beers when I'm playing games with people anyway. My friend and I have been replaying Zelda: Ocarina of Time when the bars are too crowded/annoying and it's been pretty fun. I definitely can't drink and play any sort of shooter, though.
I've played quite a few games of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood drunk, and I used to think that it made me much, much worse at the game. The last few first place rankings would seem to prove me otherwise, but either way it's fairly fun!
There is a distinction between drinking and getting drunk. It depends really on how you look at those kind of bewerages. I often drink beer because I like the taste. Whiskey too for that matter. Not to get drunk. Sipping on a beer alone won't have to be more depressing that sipping on a glass of coke.
RIGHT?!
I wonder how many of the responses are legal to drink. Enjoying a beer or two, or a glass of wine doesn't have to transform you into a lonely pathetic drunk (face it, you're already lonely and pathetic for playing video games ;-p) Lot's of regular healthy people come home from work and enjoy an adult beverage to unwind. Too many kids seem to confuse drinking with getting drunk and there is a huge difference. Whether you're out with your mates getting hammered or alone at home, it's just as foolish. Moderation is the best course under either circumstance.
As for me, back in the day when XBox Live was new, I used to enjoy a couple of beers in the evening while playing Rainbow 6: Raven Shield or MechAssault. People online would be joking around and having a good time. It was a very relaxed atmosphere back then. I believe since it was still new, people were less uptight about "pwning" ever match.
It varies from game to game. College Hoops 2K8, must be sober as a mouse. Tiger Woods 11 for the Wii, it's beer time. When I play a RPG like Oblivion on the PC, it's wine time. Most action adventure games, shooters and platformers, sober.Same here, keep it classy!
I'll have a few beers while gaming, but I mainly enjoy doing something else while game that obliterates my sobriety.
It really depends on the game, the night, and who I'm playing with. I know on Friday, my friends and I got a few drinks in us while we played NFS: Hot Pursuit, and we had a blast.
I don't drink often as it is but I've been a bit drunk whilst gaming before, but that's usually after coming in from the pub. I did once get a little drunk whilst playing WoW with friends. But that kinda went like this: I'm drinking whiskey. Oh are you? Sounds good I'll grab a drink too. Well if you're both drinking I'm gonna. Until the whole party was a little drunk and it made for some fun Baron runs back in the day. That was with a group of people I gamed with often and still talk to now though.
" @Mikewrestler5 said:Because some people just like to sit down after a shitty day at work, pour a glass of single malt scotch, and fire up some SC2 or Brotherhood. I guess that makes me an alcoholic as I read through this thread." Fuck no. That sounds really depressing. "This. Why do people drink when not at a social gathering? "
