I want to own a domesticated silver fox pretty badly.
Exotic / Out of the ordinary pets..
I once saw a monkey at a tourist place with a packet of peanuts in his hand, bending over what looked like his puke. Apparently he'd had too many peanuts and couldn't understand why all of it had come back out of his mouth. His expression was priceless. I laughed.. A LOT"
@armaan8014: Yeahhh..... good luck with that.
"
Here are some monkeys to prove my point. YES:
" @Navyseils: easy to care for? "I hear it depends on which particular species of tarantula you have, some are more needy than others. This was my first, so I went with a recommended starter species G. Rosea , and I have to say that it has been very easy to care for. tis a hardy creature. There are recommended temp/humidity ranges and the like... but I've found at room temp and regular humidity it's been totally fine. So long as it always has water it's perfectly happy. Recently it decided to give me a scare by not eating... for about 5 months. Apparently this is not so unusual, and it's munching away again no problem.
" @Catolf said:Man that would give me a nasty scare. But my Cuban Knight goes off food a lot. At least a month before he wants to eat again, he does drink a lot of water on his off feed times, and still bright green and snarky, but it just worries you when he does it." @Navyseils: easy to care for? " @armaan8014: you do understand the live a VERY long time and become unstable as they grow older? Why not do a small monkey, like a spider or something. "Nah, I'm just joking. I've never seriously considered keeping one, I just like them.
I've only ever had cats. I currently have a Betta fish, not uncommon, but they originally come from Vietnam, so I guess that's exotic. I want to get two ferrets though, those little guys are cute, funny, and make good pets (if you can handle the smell).
Late post, but saves me from making a thread on it! :p
I have a beardie, named Gordon and roughly 8 months old.
Awesome pet, super calm and seems to love attention. Though gets dramatic if he doesn't get his weekly bath.
He's potty trained too pretty much, meaning easy cleaning out of viv when needed :p
@Meowline: Holy crap, great set up! You did it all yourself? How big is it? Also I see two happy beardies in there. XD
@Catolf: Roughly £100, the Viv cost me £50 on sale. And yeah breeders ftw :P
I so wanted to make a thread about this, but this one existed. I have none currently, but I used to have two fire belly toads. I think my cat ate them... I've always wanted a snake though.
" @Catolf: I would double things he says to make it roughly into dollars. So it's more 100 bucks than 50. I so wanted to make a thread about this, but this one existed. But yeah I figured you'd have to factor in sub strait and lights and even extra things like lights and vitamins and food costs.. I just recently got a toad myself WC, just fed it a worm about 10 minutes ago, so far a good eater and is settled in nicely. It'll get a bigger tank as it grow's, right now it's so small i don't see the need yet. (unless I get my other exo terra for my girl gecko then it can have the 30 gallon.)

" I keep fire and tiger salamanders right now, I would like to keep more but anything that requires extensive lighting kills me in the summer. Petco sucks. Working at a rival pet store I get to hear all the horror stories, and I know plenty of ex-Petco employees too. "
Petco does suck, I got a leopard gecko AND a baby beardie from them and both died in a week due to worms. Never again from them. I was lucky the Crested gecko (the girl) I got was alright. (I got after the leo passed) The only money they get from me now is for CGD sense no where else in town sells it.
You should take pictures of your salamanders, love to see your set up!
The part where the beardeds live is 170cm (66,93") long, 85cm (33,46") wide and 130cm (51,18") high, the whole construction has a height of 2,30m (90,55"). I own my dragons for a little more than 5 years now and built the monster this spring after saving money and materials for about a year.@Meowline: Holy crap, great set up! You did it all yourself? There is also a set of regulations in germany regarding the minimum sizes and configurations of terraria for reptiles.
First off, I love those geckos in the OP. We were at a reptile show recently and they had gargoyle geckos (guessing the same general family?) and they were so cool. Really really soft skin on their feet. Felt cool to have them walking on you.
We have a couple pets that would probably be termed exotic, in addition to keeping quite a variety on hand at any given moment. We have 4 cats, a dog, several aquariums with fish (and a goldfish pond in the back), a russian hamster and have had birds, guinea pigs and other miscellanea in the past - really just a lot of of different common ones.
Our newest pets are more exotics though - the first is Custard, our beardie:
And the other is a pueblan milksnake we call Eve (I don't have a picture of ours handy, but looks like this).
Cool thread.
Lovely snake and Beardie! looks happy to eat for you that's for sure." First off, I love those geckos in the OP. Yeah, Gargoyle's and Cresteds are int he same family, so they have those neat soft feet.

" @Catolf said:Wow, so in Germany you have to make sure your reptile has proper setup. Thats kinda cool actually, keeps from having improper pet owners. The part where the beardeds live is 170cm (66,93") long, 85cm (33,46") wide and 130cm (51,18") high, the whole construction has a height of 2,30m (90,55"). " Not gonna lie. Those things scare the shit outta me. Friend of mine has a whole shed (properly heated and cared for etc) literally wall to wall with lizards, bullfrogs, snakes, tarantulas etc plus a coy carp pond and a tortoise enclosure in his back garden. I had a St Bernard (2 in fact) I guess those are kind of unusual on account of how huge they are, but, a dog is still a dog. "I got tackled by a huge dog once when i was younger and it almost killed me. But no i have 2 awesome and hilarious cats. But i did have 2 mice and one point that i named Vader and Troop( They were black and white respectively)
Aww I'm sorry for your fish, but having star fish is cool." We have a tropical fish tank. We have had some pretty trippy exotic fish that I couldn't tell you the exact kind. We also had a couple of starfish. But recently for some weird reason about a month ago we woke up and all but two of the fish were dead. It was fucking creepy. "

" I want a 12 inch giant centipede. "
That would be neat.
" @Catolf: fish don't have the best life expectancy especially ones a temperamental to their environment as tropical fish. So you are usually loosing one on a fairly frequent basis if you keep a lot over a period of time. But to have them all go in one night was disturbing to say the least. And tragic considering the cost of some of these things. "yeah, costly, that's the price to having temperamental fish.
