I'm sure there are people here who collects figures - whether they're game pre-order collectibles or published sculptures by well-known manufacturers like Kotobukiya or Alter. I'm one of those people of course, although I wish I can say that my collection is impressive, only it's not really. One issue is shelf/desk space, because not only do you need to plan where your figures go, the box it came with also needs to be stored somewhere.

Anyway here are some of the figures I have currently.

Gwendolyn SIF EX, Odin Sphere - 1/6 Yamato

  • Without a doubt one of the prettiest figure to ever sit on my desk. Do you see the details gone into making her?!
  • Didn't expect her corset-dress (?) to be grey-ish/off-white
  • Was kinda scared I'll bend her right semi-closed hands out of shape when trying to slide in her staff
  • Surprised this hasn't been out of stock yet considering all other characters (Mercedes and Velvet) are OOS
  • Even more surprised at how... normally priced it was. I got it for under US$100 which was a STEAL.

Luka Megurine Tony Ver., Vocaloid - 1/7 Max Factory

  • Recently released in late July 2012 and I nearly missed the pre-order, phew
  • Most eye-catching detail is her hair - the pink recedes to a more translucent colour
  • Base is pleasantly detailed and appropriate - she is a personified music synthesizer software after all
  • However, was expecting her dress to be black, not dark brown. Just a minor surprise.
  • Her box has an annoying, tightly-wounded wire you gotta remove

Tear Grants, Tales of the Abyss - 1/7 Milestone

  • First thought - OMGAH brown!
  • Honestly I only bought her because I like her character design, and I barely played the game
  • Her staff has a tendency to slide down if you knock into her
  • Not much to gush about her. She's simple and pretty.
  • Anyone can tell me the significance of the detail on the base? Or is it just a random design?
  • Oh, her box is super ugly

Emma Frost Marvel Bishoujo (Diamond Ver.), X-Men - 1/8 Kotobukiya

  • EMMA FROST!
  • IN DIAMOND FORM!
  • On a serious note, I'm not too fond of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo series given that their faces are usually dopey-looking (I'm looking at you X-23!). But since you can barely see her face in this, I got it.
  • Her stance and billowing cloak is, you gotta admit, epic
  • The middle part of the base bugs me though. It looks odd in close-up.
  • Many complained about the weird line INSIDE her stomach region, but it doesn't bother me too much.
  • Also, got it for DIRT CHEAP from AmiAmi. Dude, 76% OFF. US$19.

Hirasawa Yui (Maid Ver.), K-ON! - Banpresto

  • I honestly can't recall why I got her. I'm not that fond of maid costumes, really.
  • But, it's Yui! One of the few ditzy characters I actually like from an awesome anime/manga series
  • Surprisingly detailed for something so cheap. I like the flow of her ribbon at the back
  • ... Why are her hands super yellow though? I'd like to imagine it as her having yellow rubber gloves on but... it's not working.

Black Rock Shooter / Dead Master Nendoroid, Black Rock Shooter - Good Smile Company

  • Awww aren't they cute? Nendoroids are too adorable.
  • Black Rock Shooter OVA = boring as heck. But the art style is super.
  • Dead Master > Black Rock Shooter. I SAID IT!
  • Their heads are slightly heavy so if you're planning on having them in this particular stance style, be careful
  • I don't like their other stance styles because they're pfft boring
  • I put them side-by-side by the way, because aww cute!

Luka Megurine (Toeto Ver. Soft Vinyl), Vocaloid - Good Smile Company

  • Toeto is like, the shy version of Luka
  • E-eto... eto.... eto... .. . . .
  • Well say "eto" repeatedly and you come about her name
  • This is her song by the way, which is cute and sad at the same time :\
  • Aside from being adorably... adorable, the figure frustratingly leans slightly to the side because her base is some POS plastic
  • I got the last Toeto figure from Play-Asia bwahaha!

Luka Megurine Figma, Vocaloid - Max Factory

  • Can anyone tell that Luka is my favourite Vocaloid?
  • Sadly, this will be my first and last Figma because I hate "action-figure style" figures i.e. ones with joints
  • I got this because this is the only Luka figurine with her tuna
  • UNFORTUNATELY, that damn tuna can't stay in her hands without toppling off so I gave up and she's in this boring pose
  • ):
  • Her black dress is an insane dust catcher ))):
  • I still love Luka though

Miscellaneous, Vocaloid / K-ON!

  • These were all gotten because I needed a few more dollars to qualify for free shipping on Play-Asia
  • Luka in a tuna car! Hahaha!
  • I did not intend to get Yui and Ritsu in swimwear because they were shipped randomly
  • Yui doesn't have a base because hers couldn't fit and I threw it away in a fit of rage >.>

PRE-ORDER - Momohime, Oboro Muramasa (re-issue) - 1/8 Alter

  • I dare you to say that this isn't a beautiful figure. The colours are spectacular. D:<
  • I had the chance to buy her back when she was first released, but my weird rationale was that since I didn't play the game, I shouldn't get it
  • I hate my past self for that
  • Thankfully, they're re-issuing this and I pre-ordered it the first day it was put up
  • November release

PRE-ORDER - Ryougi Shiki, Kara no Kyoukai (re-issue) - 1/7 Good Smile Company

  • I have no idea who Ryougi Shiki is
  • Nor what Kara no Kyoukai is about
  • The fact that it's a re-issue means it's a popular model thus, I want it
  • But seriously, her kimono is gorgeous with the subtle designs, and her whole stance is serene despite that blade in her hand
  • November release as well, and more anticipated out of the 2 pre-orders

PRE-ORDER - Velvet SIF EX, Odin Sphere (re-issue) - Yamato

No Caption Provided
  • I'm insanely happy this is getting a re-issue
  • I need to stop buying figures that show off skin :\
  • My most expensive purchase to date
  • December release

Ugh trying to format this is a damn nightmare. My lines are all gone. I'll edit this whenever I can. Anyway:

  • Feel free to share your figure collections. Collectibles work too!
  • Any anticipated pre-orders or upcoming models?
  • Any figure that you're hoping to get?
  • What's your limit to how much you're willing to spend on a single figure?

Just when I was talking about the Velvet figure (from Odin Sphere) being out of stock, they're re-issuing it and I pre-ordered it from a local supplier right away.
Now I'll just have to wait and hope for a Mercedes re-issue as well. :D

 Will be mine in December!

For those keeping score, that's Serah from Final Fantasy XIII, Yuffie from Final Fantasy VII, Chun-Li and Cammy from Street Fighter, Zero Suit Samus, alt-color Poison, Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3, and Vanille from FFXIII, with bonus Tepig in the upper-right. (And a Beanie Baby.)

I also have a Crisis Core Aerith, FFX Yuna, and Garnet from FFIX, but they don't fit on that shelf.

EDIT: Oh, and Advent Children-era Tifa is sitting on my desk at work.

@OP You must watch Kara no Kyoukai it's gorgeous!

I wish I could afford figures. So far I stick to games. I really wouldn't even know where to put them in my room. There are so many figures I want.

I bought a couple of these, you know, the type with removable clothing.

But then I stared into the abyss and the abyss stared back. No more for me, no more.

I own a figma Chie Satonaka

Here she is in a quality that only an HTC HD7 can bring!
Here she is in a quality that only an HTC HD7 can bring!

And I guess this Flocked Stump Smash counts too. If not, then whatever! Only 7,334 of these exist and that makes it special!

He looks felt-y. I'll never know if he really is because he's never leaving his packaging.

@49th: Love the Spawn figurines, used to be pumped as a kid when I got one. I'm probably the only the person in the universe who is still reading the comics.

I only have a few at this point, but just recently bought the Samus Aran figure that Figma put out and she is glorious. I don't own any other Figma's so the articulation and detail are insane to me. Love it.

Why is Samus riding a Portal Gun, you ask? Because I was bored. Very bored. Also it looks like a space ship.

@49th: I know nothing about Spawn either, but those look pretty BA. My mom would probably have a fit if she sees them in my room though. :\

@Hailinel: Is Zero Suit Samus the one that was recently released? I can't recall the manufacturer now, but I was tempted to get it.
And I'm totally jealous you got a Mitsuru figure!

@MyNiceIceLife@BurningHunter: I think a figure from Persona will look nicely on my desk now.

@Brodehouse: Do you actually play D&D or just paint and collect the figurines? I think they're fascinating honestly.

@tsiro: I would actually be super happy to just own a Claptrap as well! That's awesome. Where did you get him from?

@Rabid619: LOL nice. Am VERY jealous of the Portal gun.

@Jrinswand: Heh, which anime doll thing? The nendoroids or the soft vinyl figure? I dunno, some would find them adorable.
I draw the line at actual dolls, like those Blythe types. Now THAT is truly creepy.

@SexyToad: It's pretty nice to have them on your desk. :D

@Ersanven: I really should watch it then, seeing that I'll be getting her soon.
Ya, space is really an issue and they can get pretty expensive too.
Wouldn't hurt to have a couple though, especially ones with limited runs.

@Video_Game_King: Collectibles from buying the game/film or did you actually buy them?
There were a few monster figurines from FF that I thought were pretty cool but long out of stock, unfortunately. ):

@McGhee: Heh. I honestly have not come across any with removable clothes here.
I would actually be pretty disturbed.

@NlGHTCRAWLER: Yes Emma Frost! *high fives*

@mufujifi: They were selling them at http://shop.gearboxsoftware.com/borderlands/. I think they were really popular and sold out super quickly, though. They're still selling a Psycho action figure, but I don't think it's nearly as cool :)

@tsiro: ... I actually didn't know there's an official Borderlands store page. Hmm Psycho Bandits... I wouldn't mind if it wasn't an action figure. Visible joints bug me for some reason.

Definitely less creepy when there's gender diversity and such. I won't begrudge someone a Cammy figure if they play her in Street Fighter and put her next to Akuma, Marcus Fenix and The Punisher. The "exclusively-anime-girls" thing is a little weird/voyeuristic, though.

I have one Saber figure I bought at A-Cen a couple years ago, and a broken Big Daddy from the BioShock collector's edition. Saber's broken now, too. Beyond that, I have a pretty wide-spread collection of DBZ characters, Pokémon, The Beatles from Yellow Submarine, and Star Wars action figures (90's run.) Also a couple of Zelda figures. Not sure how much is really in decent shape.

@mufujifi: Yeah visible joints bother me too. I'd love to get a Chie figma, but the joints are so noticeable that despite how good it looks otherwise, I look all interest. One of my favourite things about Samus is that all the joints make sense.

I'd love to pick up more figures and statues but in reality I'm really cheap. Buying that Portal gun was a veryyyy rare exception, though I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I'm keeping an eye on what ThreeA is doing with the co-op robots too, and hoping that they aren't TOO crazily priced. I'd love to have one of those.

@mufujifi: I know what you mean. I'd totally be into that Psycho Bandit if the joints weren't so visible. For some reason, visible joints feel way less classy (though I can't fully explain why). Still neat, though.

@Little_Socrates: It is creepy I suppose, although the fact that I'm female myself and collecting them might be even weirder.

There are iconic characters from games/films that I would like to own as well - previously mentioned was Claptrap from Borderlands, a Big Daddy would be awesome, and I would like another Darth Vader because I gave mine to my sister (which she somehow managed to misplace (??!)).
I stay away from action figures or models with joints, so it's a bit hard to hunt down well-made sculpted models that aren't already out of stock or exorbitantly priced.

Would totally love to attend Comic-con one day. Though the thought of airplane tickets and accommodation, on top of spending on figures and comics, is rather frightening.

@mufujifi: Nah, doesn't make it weirder; if anything, it's a gender representation of your favorite characters. The reason it feels voyeuristic for some guys is because anime girls are always so damned leggy.

Chicago Comic-Con in Rosemont is a lot less crazy and still has some quality merchants. Our Anime Central is higher quality, though.

I love fantasy figurines (gaming in general, LOTR, etc) but now I'm married I feel awkward wanting to purchase any female "anime" characters. They are just in the worst poses and skimpiest outfits for a man of my (lack of better word) "stature" can really get away with. Cool collections, though.

I've never understood the creepy anime doll thing. It's just so... creepy.

As she said, Mufu is a girl so it would be more weird to me if she collected only male figurines.

Cool collection. I was looking into buying those Nausicaa manga the other day from a used bookstore but they didn't have issue 1 so I didn't end up doing it. I scanned through issue 2 quickly though and you are right that it is stunningly beautiful. Have you seen Arrietty yet? It was just released on DVD in the US and it was just gorgeous. I know it wasn't Hayou himself but the artists at Ghibli are just so amazing. And the good news is that some indie distributor picked up From Up On Poppy Hill and is releasing it before the end of the year, so we get two Ghibli movies in one year here. Talk about lucky.

@Rabid619: It's a shame that Chie only has a Figma model, while the rest are usually PVC.
I'm not really her fan, but I'm sure more people would appreciate if she has a variety more runs.

How much did you spend on that Portal gun anyway? Nowhere else is selling them anymore (except eBay), and the last Comic-con has like, limited copies which were snapped up fast I'd bet.
I would buy the turret plushies from thinkgeek.com if not for the fact that I have to use those package forwarding services to ship to my country. :\

I own this Nendoroid of Yukiko and 1/8 scale Makise Kurisu from Steins;Gate. I'd also like to get the 1/8 scale Yukiko and 1/8 scale Yu Narukami.

@mufujifi: Yeah, it is. It was put out by Max Factory, I believe. And the Mitsuru figure is awesome. At my previous job, I actually had her sitting on my desk. Quite the conversation piece, what with the Evoker pointed at her head and all. :)

@tsiro: The Psycho Bandit actually isn't the worst action figure I've seen. It's not so bad because the dark outlines fit the style of the game so it looks natural.
And the fact that he wears a mask and has no hair helps too. Most action figures are just... kinda ugly with the details.

@Little_Socrates: Yeeehhhh the vast amount of skin kinda troubles me sometime.
It takes a lot of convincing to others that I appreciate the details and colour in the sculpture, not because I'm being pervy, haha.

And visiting Comic-con. ANY of the conventions, whether it's more low-key than some other area. Definitely on my holiday wishlist.

@iam3green: I saw the Claude figure before since my friend got it. I was definitely surprised at how well-made it was.

@ck1nd: Heh that would be a problem. I'm kind of thinking ahead, for when I'll be a married woman and what I'll do with my figurines.
I'm sure the husband wouldn't mind at least.

@Raven10: Hey you. And lol, really? It'll be weirder if I have more male figurines compared to females in skimpy clothings?

Anyway, I got the whole of the Nausicaa manga from bookdepository.com. Maybe check it out? They have free shipping, and priced cheaper than my local bookstores at least.
And I haven't seen Arrietty yet, nor do I know what it's about! I heard lots of good things about it, so I'll definitely be checking it out when I have the time.
I've never heard of From Up On Poppy Hill either.

I've been thinking of re-collecting the Ghibli collection on blu-ray, but the new releases are so expensive, it's not even funny. :\

@InfiniteGeass: I really like Nendoroids, but I've been concentrating more on getting 1/7, 1/8 models.
I nearly bought that exact figure of Makise Kurisu last week, but someone else snapped it up before I could decide.
It's not that I know the character nor what it's about, but I liked that floating gear thing. What IS it's significance anyway?

If you find a 1/8 scale of Yukiko, I'll be jealous. I actually didn't know it exists.
Wave Corporation is releasing a beachwear version but uh, I'd rather her in normal clothes.

@mufujifi: I ended up getting lucky after searching for many months and found one locally for retail price, which was $140. Glad I was able to get one as they've hopped up to $400ish on ebay now.

I'd love to get one of those plush turrets, too, but yeah, thinkgeek shipping can be pretty harsh if you don't live in the US. Luckily I have a Con coming up close by later this month, so I might see if I can track one down there. And yeah, those fears that you have of going to a Con and spending way too much money are completely legitimate. It's an awesome yet horrible thing when you see so many things you want all in the same place.

@Hailinel: The Evoker would definitely be questionable to some, I can imagine.
And that's... actually a sound idea. As in, putting a couple of figures on my work desk if I don't have space at home.

All I have on my desk is this, because I was bored one day and built them:

I think the gears are like the gears of time? The show has a lot of time travel in it. Regardless it looks great and I love the solemn expression on her face. It's different from most figures that are all happy and cheerful.

I actually already have the 1/8 Yukiko and Yu pre-ordered here and here.

I would love to collect this type of shit but I am afraid that if I start it will become an addiction, like game collecting. I can't handle that right now. Good stuff though.

@InfiniteGeass: Oh clock gears. Well that makes sense if there's time-travelling.

Oh. You're awesome for linking me that! Guess I have another pre-order now. Well it says "tentative pre-order", but better a chance than none at all.

@NMC2008: That's true. It gets kind of addictive, and there's so many nice figures out there.
I did stop for a while but ever since I received my Gwendolyn, I got more.

Got myself a couple of Gundam real grade models and some stuff from my childhood I like to stick up on my desk- A Gi-joe, an old space shuttle wooden model, and a couple of out of print tabletop things I used to love.

Pretty cool stuff, not big into the anime stuff but I can appreciate the collection. I like to paint my own figures and such- You know, Warhammer 40k, that kind of thing. I also build a lot of naval vessels like the Los Angeles class submarine and the Arleigh Burke class destroyer. Next to Gundams I guess submarines are a big thing for me. My problem with collections is I get pretty OCD about this shit, and when things go out of print I pull my hair out in scrambling to get what I can. It's the same way with video games for me.

@Rohok: Nice! I have a few HG models built, and a lot of unopened HGs and MGs. I can never find the time to build them nowadays.
Do you do detailings or paint your RG models, or just build them out of box?

I would love to spend a day painting random D&D and Warhammer miniatures if I can.
There are probably hobby groups who build/paint models here, but I probably will have commitment issues.

@mufujifi: Well unless you are a lesbian and never told me, I think it would be weirder to collect provocatively dressed male figurines. I say weirder but I don't think either is weird. If someone is into that kind of thing then good for them. Not my way to judge people.

@Raven10: I'm pretty sure I'm not one although I've been questioned a lot, hah. And well, yes, when you put it as "provocatively dressed male figurines" then I can see why it's weirder.
