Slap Indie on the front of any genre and it becomes like it was but slightly "alternative".
What's with this fucking obsession of things being indie? How is some band such as Interpol "indie" when they're highly popular in not just an alternative sense but a mainstream sense as well? Indie means nothing.
People put on skinny jeans or pick up a guitar and suddenly they're indie. No. It doesn't work that way.
Big corporations are selling this indie thing back to us in terms of fashion and music because they noticed the trend of people moving away from RnB and rap music. So suddenly they take up the styles and "fuck corporations" attitude of that once small enclosed subculture and BAM, suddenly everything is indie. It is not a legitimate subculture. It's some guy in a suit noticing that The Strokes are pretty popular and so changed their company tactics to market that New York hipster style. Now every one that isn't into Rihanna or T-Pain gets a big fat indie sticker slapped on their forehead and suburban white kids turn their heads away from facebook for a second because they're interest has been peaked.
I even buy into this whole "indie" thing with the some of the music and the dress and what ever. I just hate how people deny that it is totally a mainstream created thing these days.
If everyone is indie, then isn't no one indie?

Fuck this "Indie" shit
I don't care what anyone says, Pavement was and still is the greatest indie band of all time.
Nobody can contest this claim. Slanted and Enchanted is a masterpiece.
" your so indie with your rant about corporations, are you wearing skinny jeans? "OWNED.
I can see your point, but these days 'indie' is more considered a sound or look rather than something actually being alternative to the main stream.
Indie means independent. When a very popular band releases an album through a publisher that is independent, or even if they release the album on their own, that is what indie means. It doesn't matter if it's your friends next door or freaking Green Day. An example of this is Radiohead's "In Rainbows". When they first released the album over the internet, it was simply from their site with no publisher involved. That is technically considered indie. Although they signed the album with XL later on, In Rainbows was technically an indie album because they weren't relying on a huge company like Capitol or EMI. And even then, In Rainbows was XL's first release.
On the other hand, indie can also be a style of music as well. In that case you're simply describing the type of music and not the roots and fanbase of it. The reason that type of music became to be known as indie was through the surge of garage bands who had that garage-style sound, and then struggled to get signed to a large label. Since they had to settle for smaller labels or even release it through their own efforts, that type of music is called indie.
You've said it, it is the sickness called the poser. "Indie" is msntrm, that is the way of things. Something trendy becomes, over time, popular. That is the way of fashion, music, etc.
But, there will always be artists that do things because they love it, not because it's cool.
" @SpiralStairs: what about The Pixies? "Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are great albums as well.
Steve Albini is also an awesome man not only for producing Surfer Rosa but because Big Black is another great band.
I would like indie music to go away. I would also like indie games to stop getting so much unwarranted hype.
" @Metalideth: What trend do you want it to be replaced with? Seriously there's always got to be something for sheeple to obsess over and indie is no more obnoxious than emo, goth, punk, grunge and other musical/cultural trends of the past. "Yeah, I guess. I long for a world where people can listen to music and not dress like tards. If your over 16 and still have the need to dress to your "Scene" you should "DIAF".
" @Qdor said:No, this" If you're not indie, FUCK YOU! *queue punch in the face* "This "
