video on the link, or watch it here

hide yo kids hide yo apps? not really, but hopefully this closes the chapter on at least one hacker debacle, even though Sony brought a gun to a knife fight when he broke the hell out of their PS3 earlier this year

good for him, he is skilled and it nice to see it put to use

Thinking of a man named GeoHot working an office job at Facebook makes me sad for some reason. He should be flying around saving cats from trees or something.

So what does this mean for Facebook? More hack attempts or better defense?

#5 Posted by Levianth (107 posts) -
@FritzDude: It most likely means better tested security systems for the personal information Zuckerberg already seems willing to give away.

I'd imagine both.

Geohot using his "uber-skillz" to step Facebook's game up and all the script kiddies who wanna make a name for themselves by toppling the might Mr Hotz and Facebook.

You see, ya whiny "BAAAW THE HACKERS RUIN EVERYTHING!" bunch, this is what actually happens.

Though you never hear about it, all this "hacker scum" you complain about don't get thrown into the slammer to get slammed by big Bubba the cell mate. Unless they transgress into some vile shit, they get cushy jobs as security experts and such at everything from the government to Fortune 500 companies and can leave "Their mom's basemen where they are virgins and losers" as so many ignoramuses have posted ad nauseum.

What does Facebook need security for?

They already give all your personal info away to anyone that asks nicely.

I figured he'd get a decent job eventually if he really tried. Maybe now he can put his ability to more productive use and stop acting like a child. I don't really have a problem with Geohot, just his irresponsible methods. He suggests he had good intentions and that's more then most star hackers that do something that gets a lot of attention.

Maybe employment will give him an excuse to get out of his basement and learn how the rest of the world socializes.

Ah, who am I kidding?

And when he leaves the company or is fired, he has knowlage of all the loopholes and how their architecture works.

It's nice whenever someone can put a skill such as this to good use.

#21 Posted by MattyFTM (14247 posts) -

Someone was going to hire him. I'm actually a little surprised Sony didn't hire him. But I can see why that might look bad for them, after all of the publicity of them taking him to court.
