yo just wonderin duders. Mine would probably be Sigur Ros - Kveikur but I've listened to very little new music this year. The only other albums this year I liked were my bloody valentine - m b v and the new mindless self indulgence (which isn't any different than any of their previous albums but I haven't listened to them in a while so vOv).

The only new music I've listened to this year is the new Queens of the Stone Age record "...Like Clockwork" and the new Alice in Chains record "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here." The former is fantastic and the latter is okay. A few good songs but nothing amazing.

It's even better after the 20th time you listen to it -- after it drives you insane, of course.

#8 Posted by HH (611 posts) -

made this year? probably Blood Drive by ASG. i also like Teethed Glory and Injury by Altar of Plagues.

but really it's The Gambler soundtrack, featuring music written by Gustav Mahler for his first symphony way back in the day, then moodily re-worked by Jerry Fielding in 1973 for this great James Caan movie, then finally released this year by Quartet Records.

My favorite album so far is Desperate Ground by The Thermals. Closely followed by Makthaverskans second album.

Dawes' new album is pretty great. As is the new Junip album.

Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork is one fan-fucking-tastic album, Smooth Sailing gives me a major broner.

  • Daft Punk - R.A.M.
  • David Bowie - The Next Day
  • Nico Vega - Beast (09, but whatever, I found it this year)
  • Everything that plays at the ends of Mad Men. That counts right?

Woodkid's The Golden Age was disappointing. :(

In no particular order;

  • David Bowie - The Next Day
  • The Knife - Shaking The Habitual
  • QOTSA - ...Like Clockwork
  • BoC - Tomorrow's Harvest
  • Savages - Silence Yourself
  • Bibio - Silver Wilkinson
  • Autechre - Exai.

Now that I actually think about it, I think all the music I'm listening to is 2012 or earlier right now.

Song of the year, bar none for me. John Linnell's lyrical ability to write the most honest asshole lyrics set to fucking kick-ass pop music astounds me, and this is his best yet. Just listen to those words, dude in the song has the most trust issues.

#23 Edited by Coafi (1490 posts) -
  • Deerhunter- Monomania
  • Bonobo- The North Borders
  • Bibio- Silver Wilkinson
  • Anamanaguchi- Endless Fantasy

I've barely listened to any music this year, and those few albums have been on repeat.

Also, I think Daft Punk's new album is pretty terrible, am I missing something?

#24 Posted by MonetaryDread (2070 posts) -

The new Black Dahlia Murder album is pretty sweet.

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires Of The City is really really great. Also, I don't think it's necessarily their best album, but I've listened to more Tegan And Sara - Heartthrob than any of their other albums. And Yeezus and Random Access Memories kinda go without saying.

I've tried a number of times and I really can't seem to get into that National album. It starts out really strong, but by the middle of the album, I'm bored and listening to their older stuff.

  • JEW - Damage
  • Daft Punk - R.A.M.
  • Airbourne - Black Dog Barking
  • Volbeat - Outlaw gentlemen and shady ladies

Jato Effect's In Search of Life is an amazing album.

#35 Posted by ignatz27 (27 posts) -

BOWIE. After a whole lot of listens, I really do think The Next Day is one of his best records, and that's a pretty incredible thing to pull off this late in a career.

#36 Posted by OmniscientCajun (127 posts) -

Albums released in 2013 I've bought and their ranking.

  1. Nemesis by Stratovarius
  2. The Divinity of Purpose by Hatebreed
  3. Straight Out of Hell by Helloween
  4. Ride the Void by Holy Grail

Stratovarius absolutely killed it with Nemesis. It is easily my favorite album I've heard from them.

I just found out White Wizzard put out a new album so I'm probably going to get that too.

There are a couple really good songs on that new Phoenix album, but I'm not sure if I like the rest of them.
