He always seems to be the earliest adopter of all the hardware aswell as spending alot more on stuff (from what I heard in the podcasts at least).

No kids = tons of dispensable income.

#3 Posted by FluxWaveZ (17868 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Yes.

#4 Posted by TeflonBilly (4722 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

He's rich in friends <3

#5 Posted by Brodehouse (7119 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

He cuts his costs on other things in order to enjoy the things he wants. Dude has a roommate. Dude has a broom ducttaped to his window. That saves some bucks you can apply to Turbograf-X.

He's also technically a journalist with 20 years experience.

#6 Posted by LooseChange (1693 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

He's rich bitch.

#7 Posted by Sackmanjones (4177 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

I just think he's passionate about games and when it comes to video games money isn't a concern

#8 Posted by ShockD (2187 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Of course, look at how many premium members there are on the site.

#9 Posted by TobbRobb (3302 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Yeah I don.t think he just has money laying around, he just manages his income in such a way that video games have an insanely high priority.

#10 Posted by Kidavenger (2236 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Rich is fartcat, not Jeff.

#11 Posted by killacam (1131 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

$650 dollar colorblindness-curing glasses experiment. yes.

#12 Posted by pepperzz (133 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

I think he's pretty well off based on what CBSi is probably paying Giant Bomb and his % of ownership in the site. But yeah, not having kids/a wife/a house does cheapen things up a bit.

#13 Posted by FritzDude (2206 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

I Guess it Depends on who you ask? To me Jeff doesn't seem Rich, but more impulsive.

Except, not technically, or really at all in any way shape or form. As he himself has quite rightly, and proudly proclaimed in the past.

No one working for Giant Bomb is (or has ever been) a journalist, except Patrick.

#professionalvideogamesman.

If i never got married i would probably spend like Jeff too. So thank god i got married or my house would contain nothing but arcade cabinets.

This. Children are parasites that feed off your sanity and bank account. I have no kids, and even with a shitty job I still have a decent amount of money to spend on stupid shit that will in no way fill the emptiness of my soul. God it's great not having kids.

#18 Posted by mikey87144 (1034 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

His car situation should inform you of his theoretical wealth. (Hint, he's not rich)

#19 Posted by shootermcclay (217 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

@Alexandru: There are plenty of videos with both of them in it. Jeff is not Rich Gallup.

#20 Posted by Brodehouse (7119 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago
@Fattony12000 Dude, you knew exactly what I was talking about. You've played semantics and for what?

(The worst part is, I've gone to lengths talking about how games 'writing' is not necessarily games 'journalism'. You've shit all over someone who actually agrees with you for semantics.)

Ah yes gaming journalism - the blogs some people write on this site are no different to the stuff Patrick puts up. Doesn't make either of them journalists.

It's not like they are out in the field getting hot tips, or risking getting their asses blown off in Syria.

and it's easy to afford the latest consoles when you don't have kids, even with them it probably isn't going to cause much concern.

#23 Posted by Fattony12000 (4377 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

@Brodehouse: Dude, bro.

Just bro, dude.

#24 Posted by pyromagnestir (2914 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

He's got a sugar daddy who buys him whatever he wants.

#25 Posted by CH3BURASHKA (3912 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Less rich, more irresponsible with his cash. It makes for great comedy, but then you realize he's a grown-ass man with a shit ton of Skylanders toys.

That "raid" he's been talking about - I fear he'll have a complete nervous breakdown, have some flashbacks to his time in 'Nam and become a rambling hobo in the streets of Tokyo.

It's time for an intervention.

The guy is single. He can spend any money he gets on himself and no one else.

Obviously turning tricks on the side.

He does interviews that would be hard to come by for most of the user blogs on the site, but that's mostly because he has some amount of rep from working at GB and other gaming sites previously.

$650 dollar colorblindness-curing glasses experiment. yes.

I must know what this is in reference to.
#32 Posted by Peanut (854 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

All of you are either children, working shit paying jobs, or seriously don't understand the serious amount of money you can save by a) being single b) not having kids and c) splitting housing costs.

Jeff has worked full-time for years at what I'm sure is a decent paying job, and has no family to be responsible for. I would be sleeping in a pile of money if I didn't have to worry about providing for two other human beings.

He just ordered a pair of glasses that supposedly make colorblind people... less colorblind? able to "see" the colors they've been missing? It's unclear just what effect they'll have, but he dropped $650 to find out!

@pepperzz: Really? I always thought Jeff was married and had kids... Why did I never know this?

#41 Posted by Hizang (8536 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

People sometimes think I'm rich for the same reason that you think Jeff is rich, I buy a lot of games and I will just walk into a shop and buy an iPhone TV because I have the money. But I don't pay a lot of rent (£90) a month plus I live with my parents so food isn't an issue either, it;s a case of spending your money on things you are passionate for.

#42 Posted by hwy_61 (873 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

I really hope something good comes out of this thread. Maybe on the next Jar Time Jeff will surround himself with stacks of bejamins.

#43 Posted by ripelivejam (1419 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

@hwy_61: or georges, it's hard to tell on his feed

@Alexandru: Yes he is. You should marry him.

#45 Posted by Jack268 (3386 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Yes, he takes 100% of our premium money to feed his Skylanders addiction.

#46 Posted by Godlyawesomeguy (5978 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Sounds like a question the MBMBAM guys might answer.

#47 Posted by mutha3 (4963 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Are you joking?

The dude almost impulse bought a 150,000 dollar car, if memory serves.

#48 Posted by CaLe (2498 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Jeff followed the money, what can I say. Now he just needs an abandoned underground bunker to store it all in.

#49 Posted by MooseyMcMan (8554 posts) - 6 months, 4 days ago

Have you listened to any of his stories about his life outside of video games? That does not sound like the life of a man with a lot of money.

As others have said, it's a combination of no kids and cutting back on a lot of other things. If you're frugal in some areas, you can waste a lot of money on some really stupid awesome stuff.

You do realize that the vast majority of people that posted in this forum all said the exact same thing right? Almost every other post was "no kids and not married" and there were a few mentioning his roommate. The only difference is that the other folks didn't feel the need to make generalized assumptions about other people while they were posting it...way to go!
