" @Dtat said:Haha! Ok yeah I feel stupid. That's cool though. It's pretty damn effective!" So can someone tell me how this is actually done? I feel kind of stupid but...seriously. Like...it's not really a hologram right? "Rear projection. They are using projectors to project that image to translucent plastic(?). You can see the projectors when the camera angle is right, like at 0:25. "
It is official. We live in the future!
It helps when you understand how crazy popular the Hatsune Miku thing is.
Also, its not a crazy hologram because that technology is far from possible right now. In fact, look at this article posted on Tested earlier this month about recent breakthroughs in hologram technology. So yeah, this isn't a hologram, its most likely just a 2D image projected onto a transparent screen. With proper lighting (or not lighting) the screen looks invisible.
So yeah, not the future yet. It is true that a vocaloid sold out a concert though, which is pretty crazy. But plenty of less catchy and awesome real life people sell out concerts as well.
I just want my Star Wars battle chess. When this tech is affordable and in every home I will sit back and die happily knowing I lived to see the future.
" it's so creepy.. AH GOD I'M NOT READY FOR THE FUTURE "Basically this. Hologram Vocaloid is weird... How the hell are they even doing this...
I hope record companies will see how bad it would be.

Although I'd prefer a more 3000ish experience.
" The Gorillaz have done this. Where have you been? "To be fair, the Gorillaz only have animated visuals. The singing was done by real people. This is synthesized voice. There is not a real person there at all. At least Murdoc from the Gorillaz is consistently played by one person. Anyone can buy the vocaloid software and make Hatsune Miku sing something. It's crazy that there are concerts that are starring a piece of software.
" @kingclaw said:The walking around was not "live" but was filmed and edited and then she appeared. What's really impressive about that is the fact that she walked behind and in front of them, and her shadow played over them. Pretty sweet. ""We have been in the future for a few years now... Skip to munute 3:00 to watch Madonna walking around the holografic gorillaz EDIT: This was in 2006 btw "

I was aware of this back when it happened, and I've kind of got mixed feelings about the show. All the fans are paying (what I'm sure is a hefty price) to basically come watch some glorified video, but in the end I suppose what they are really buying is the atmosphere. Plus, think of all the revenue for not having to work through agents or any kind of appearance fee, not to mention whatever version Japan has of child labor laws.

" @Scrawnto: Dude we should go see Gorillaz! "I had tickets to see them a couple of months back, but they struck my venue from the tour when the extended it to the rest of the world. So crushed it was unreal.
