My school is having a thing where you work abroad and it only applies to european countries, I've shortened the list to these two because I want to visit them the most but I still have a hard time deciding
What do you recommend and why? Other locations include Slovenia, Austria, England and Spain
Italy or France, where should I go this summer?
Come to Ireland! Enjoy our cold, wet weather! Our horrible transport system! The drunks that lurk in the shadows who grip hard into a bag of chips! Come on, you'll have a great time!
(DON'T)
" @Ventilaator said:damn! The Italian tourism board should really look into sponsoring the next sequel haha." I'm playing Assassin's Creed 2, so Italy is pretty awesome right now. "Yeah that is probably one of the biggest reasons I wanna go "
" Come to Ireland! Enjoy our cold, wet weather! Our horrible transport system! The drunks that lurk in the shadows who grip hard into a bag of chips! Come on, you'll have a great time! (DON'T) "Nobody will ever willingly come to Ireland, stop trying to steal all our tourists
I've been to both, and I'll lay out what I thought of them here...
Italy
- Great food, but you inevitably get bored of pasta/pizza. In fact, I had a horrible break-out during my trip to Italy last year due to the high-carb, low-veg diet there. :(
- Seeing all the locations that were in Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherhood was very fun
- An overall casual atmosphere; louder people
- Lots of vendors/cab drivers that try to rip you off (probably happened moreso with me because I clearly don't look like a local)
France
- Greater variety in food beyond just pasta and pizza--I could eat in a Paris cafe for a week, no problem, but an Italian trattoria for a week would become repetitive much faster
- Sidewalks often have fresh pigeon/dog/something poo somewhere; I spent so much time looking downwards when walking because I was afraid of stepping in shit
- The people generally seemed to have a haughtier attitude if it was clear you were a tourist/can't understand French, but they are still polite and courteous
- So much pretty architecture, and the places to stay (hotels, apartments, etc.) I felt were overall better than those I was at in Italy
These are strictly my personal impressions, of course. Both places are filled with famous works of art and national monuments that deserve to be seen in your lifetime. Maybe consider which place is more exotic/different compared to where you're from?
Without knowing any possible similarities between Sweden and France/Italy (I'm Canadian), from personal experience I would suggest Italy. It may be a result of the fact that I only visited Paris, but France didn't leave a really great impression on me. Places like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre are incredible but they don't hold a candle to places the Colosseum, Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica, or the entirety of Venice. Italy seemed like a much friendlier place that would be more exciting to live in and explore daily.
From Sweden? Nice, I spent a few months and played soccer in Malmo a few summers ago. I've never been to Italy, but Spain or France are great. Barcelona has amazing girls and has great weather good for hanging out on Las Ramblas all day and night drinking and just mixing things up. Paris is allright, but In France I really liked the smaller cities more, like Bordeaux.
I don't like Silvio Berlusconi.
I don't like French food.
Thus, another country is in order. Go to the UK, go to Marks & Spencer, go to their food section and buy their "Mini Pork Pies" or anything from that section. Best food ever. Also, fastest way to a heart attack courtesy of liberal amounts of lard. In a way, I'm glad I don't live in England, otherwise I'd probably weigh 3 times the amount I do now.
Don't worry, a few months in Work-Study Abroad is not bad enough to cause any major health disasters from that food.
Italy. Spain has bad food in comparison and france....has lame tourist attractions (only thing thats good is effel tower) germany is an alright alternate choice. Oh and austria/switzerland are pretty good if you like chocolate.
