jakob187's Favorite Game of 2017...and a Goodbye.

Hey everyone. Some of you know me, and some of you don't. If you do know me, you're old now. Like me.

Destiny 2 stole my heart this year, despite the fact that I've easily dumped more time into Black Desert Online than I did into Destiny 2. I've been on the game for about three weeks now, and it's been pretty great. I love a good grind, and this game delivers on that pretty decently while still making things attainable (unlike Black Desert Online, which can make the grind seem like an insurmountable task pretty easily, but very rewarding when it is achieved).

If you haven't played Destiny 2, you should go play Destiny 2. It's great with a group. It's great with PUGs. It's great solo.

With that said, this is also working as an official farewell from the site.

For one, I'm moving soon from my hometown of Waco. Back in April, I left my job of 11 years at Lansharx Gaming to begin working at Mouser Electronics. I started in warehouse order pulling, and I've quickly started working my way up the ranks. In turn, my time for internet (and even gaming) has basically been limited to the weekends (since I do not own a cell phone...and will continue to not own one...seriously, it's the greatest!). I'll be moving to be closer to work (as I currently have an hour and a half drive).

For the second, I barely visit the site anymore. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but the site just isn't what I originally came here for, but that doesn't mean the site is bad by any means. I'm glad to see that @jeff and the guys have taken this little thing they created in a basement and turned it into one of THE places for video games, to see that the vision of a gaming wikipedia has been a success. I'm also glad to see that they are still solely focused on gaming, something that many other sites cannot claim anymore. Y'all have done such an amazing job with the site. It's been a looooong nine years, and thanks for allowing me to be a participant in this community (when I'm sure I could've been banned at least once or twice in the past).

I'm gonna miss all the old folks, the OGs that helped form this community and continue to help make it flourish, that gave me infinite amounts of laughs and smiles and tears and advice. There's not a lot of us left, and now I reduce that number by one more.

Good to see you again jakob187. We didn't interact a whole ton, but you were always a poster whose opinions I enjoyed reading even when I disagreed with them. Sounds like things have progressively been getting better for you (other than that commute, don't blame you one bit for moving) and I hope you are doing well. It always sad seeing long time user go, i never really interacted with you but i have seen your around since 2008 when i finally signed up after How To Build A Bomb ended. I think there are only a few left that personally have taken note of. The rest have slowly faded away or gotten banned for either stupid or petty stuff.

Things change and people move on, and by the sound of it seems like you will have a good time.

While I was never a big poster, I've been seeing your forum posts pretty goddamn consistently over these 9 and a half years, and were a big proponent is pointing a lot of people towards this community in a positive light. I’ll probably listen to the bombcast and beastcast forever- or at least as long as there’s still some OG Hotspot crew on it- i was there for episode 1 of the hotspot and I sure as hell ain’t going to stop now- but you’re right about the site overall, it’ll never be like it was- and that’s OK.
