Well done to everyone for getting through that...phew!
Let's Make A Game 2012
We decided to change to a gritty military shooter. I think it's a much better track to head down.
Nah I think just wrapping up stuff.
Just relaying this from the PM thread:
I've reserved a few things, primarily a domain - www.giantbomblmag.com - and I have a server for available for hosting.
I also reserved us an irc channel:
- Server: irc.freenode.org
- Channel: #giantbomb_lmag
It would be useful to use the giantbomblmag.com page to link to all of our primary resources, including a direct irc webclient to our channel similar to the gaming hub guys, as well as our alternate forum and official GB thread.
Finally, I think a development blog would be a damn cool read for the community at large. Is anyone interested in chronicling our development cycle?
@development: The IRC is free for all. I've been doing quite a bit of management but I joined the IRC instead of the hangout because I am not a design lead. The people in the hangout do read the IRC and so everyone can talk. The next meeting needs to be planned by someone though, otherwise it becomes a bit of a mess. We did however work out a few things, like battle mechanics.
Check out the concept for Hyper-Tokyo on the wiki page!

Sounds good to me! For the most part I was just sitting there nodding my head in agreement with everyone else anyway. ...Would be cool to sit in again if any future ones are open to all.

@development: They will be. It's best to keep most people on the IRC though. :)
Regarding the IRC situation, I know a number of people have been a little confused about how to access the chat/what channel to join.
We have a registered channel on freenode now: #giantbomb_lmag, with logging facilities. I'm working on getting the log browsing web client up, but at least any discussions can be archived and referenced if held in this room. For convenience, I also put up a link on www.giantbomblmag.com directly to a configured webclient. All you guys need to do is put in your nickname, and go!
FYI to software people:
After our meeting yesterday, I think we've nailed down some of the game mechanics, so I will likely start to organize things on the software side a bit more.
Expect a message from me late next week with some details on how you guys can get started.
@afrofools Good call on the name poll. We should make another one for what our team should be called.
Also, @Chaser324 if there are any programmers specifically working on audio, let me know and I can start getting in touch with them.
@afrofools You mind adding me on that Trello board (username is chasepettit)? I'm planning on using Trello in the software project management workflow. I created an organization "GB-Game" that I think we need to get everyone added to and then we can have separate boards for each discipline involved and the overall progress board. If / when the software team ends up distributing test builds to others in the community, it might be an easier place for people that aren't software oriented enough to care about GitHub (i.e. most people in the world) to submit bug and feature requests to the programmers.
The software team tasks will live here: https://trello.com/b/9Xe2VHKO. I'm going to try to send out e-mails to everyone to add them to the GB-Game organization on Trello, but if you don't get an e-mail in the next day or so, contact me for an invite.
@Chaser324: I already had made an organisation for it... I just thought everyone wanted to use Basecamp so I hadn't sent out invitations.
EDIT: Made you an admin Chase. Can you keep the 'everything' board public whatever you do. Thanks :)
@Chaser324: Cool. I don't like basecamp myself so it's a win for me. I wish both of these project management apps had mass-invite support though.
@afrofools: I counter with https://trello.com/gbgame
I already invited a bunch of people to it (everyone on the "Credits" document on Google Drive), copied over your logo and the "Everything" board, and added you and the other people currently registered to all boards.
@Chaser324: FUCKING HELL. Okay. Obligatory smiley face :)
EDIT: I can't add cards to the boards on the new organisation you're running.
I just finished watching/listening to the development meeting video from Saturday. I think the watch, spinner mechanic is amazing. The compact and simple combination of the combat mechanic, the equipment mechanic, and stat mechanic is incredible. Is it too early for me to say I really want this to be done so I can play it!
So I'm not 100% if there was more of a story out there than the base premise that fattony posted on the other board or not, but I feel like throwing in a little characer pitch for the hyper-tokyo timeline:
Who is he: (Japanese Name Not Decided Yet)
What is he: Japanese Pro Wrestler who left the ring to pursue a political career. Yes, this is rediculous, but it has happened before and I think that backstory can create a fun character. There are two known japanese wrestlers turned politicians, and they are Antonio Inoki and The Great Sasuke. And even crazier, The Great Sasuke never took off his mask:
Where would he be in the game? He would be the mayor of Hyper-Tokyo. And his goal is to stop the PC from reaching the evil future technology. Turns out the rivalvideogamewebsite is shilling out tons of money to the japanese government for their future technology to be in place. The PC has battled through all of the Mayor's goons, so it looks like the mayor is going to have to take matters into his own hands.
A Boss Battle. Quick Ideas: Everytime you hit him, he becomes stronger, so you either need to deal a lot of damage to him fast before he becomes too strong or you need to focus your attacks on his knees, which is an obvious weakpoint. A frame of reference would be about @10:38 of this video:
Anyway, that's my blind pitch without knowing too much about what he game is actually going to be.
@Chaser324: I assume we're supposed to be able to comment on cards. Correct? Or is that merely a bulletin board?
@TurboMan: Thanks for the ideas! We're working on moving all work to our alt forums to keep things more organized so be sure to post this and future ideas over there, thanks!
I have slimmed the first post down everyone. I am thinking about how to handle the list of team members now that Fattony has taken it upon himself to remake it again in a spreadsheet...
@afrofools: Oh that is so much better! We should also consider finding a way to promote polls (like the one on the previous page).
@afrofools
What do you mean by "team name." Also, isn't it more fair to let Fattony decide on the name as it's his story? It seems a bit weird that people who potentially have no involvement in the project could be making such a major decision for us. Silly me, I didn't realize it was for proposals and not a poll.
@tariqari: I thought this was a community project... I must have been mistaken. I'll let Fattony pick his favourite out of the proposed names in a few days then.
@tariqari: Some people suggested giving our team an actual name. So when we finish the game it isn't "TimeBomb" made by "Let's make a game".
