I just watched Godfather 1 and 2. I didn't much care for the movies as I didn't really connect with any of the characters, all my friends say I'm crazy because I myself am Italian lol. Even though I didn't like it I understood why the series was so critically and commercially successful. So what about you, what movies do you hate but understand why they are so popular and successful?

Did you even read the title?

Anyways, I'd have to go with BenjaminButton. I'm not sure why but it just didn't hold my attention and I found myself very bored.

No Country for Old Men. I don't understand why everyone thinks it's amazing.

I cannot hate movies that I regard as good pieces of filmmaking. I may not like or enjoy them, but I would never say I hate them. But there are a lot of movies that I would argue against being good pieces of filmmaking - A Serious Man being the last.

Twilight. It fits the target audience perfectly.

As to other posts, its not post movies you don't understand why people love them. Its post movies you do understand why people love them.

I think it was an attempt to take brand new movie making into a new higher level of ACTION-Y ATMOSPHERE and THINGS GOING ON AT NIGHT and supposed to be all intense and shit.. and i believe it failed miserable. reached too far and got nothing.

I despise Tommy, mostly because a friend snuck it on me without informing me that it was a frickin musical.

I don't think it's good (at all) but I can see why people enjoy two hours of drug induced absurdity.

I didn't care for Crash, but understand why the liberal elites in Hollywood would have like it to award it the Best Picture.

Pulp Fiction [I don't hate this but it's not as good as Reservoir Dogs in my opinion]
Kill Bill
Moulin rouge  [I can understand why girls like it but it's still god awful]

alot of people have totally missed the point of this thread lol

I'd say No Country for Old Men, it's well made, the cinematography is top notch and it oozes class but i just found myself nodding off and not really connecting with the characters. I would say it's the slow pace, at the start at least if i remember correctly, but i like a bunch of movies with slower pacing!

Twilight series. Not for me, but considering the people it's for, which is little girls, there ain't nothing wrong with it as a movie.

Blasphemer! That movie was incredible and Baz Luhrmann is a visionary!

I really didn't enjoy The Dark Knight all that much. I could see that the acting was great, but story-wise it didn't do anything to make me care.

Kick-Ass, most recently. The costumes just pissed me off to no end.
