[POLL] How do you handle random friend invites?
Over the last few days I have noticed myself getting a bunch of random friend invites on Steam while playing Team Fortress 2. I have no idea why I get them, as I usually never talk in game unless it's to remind the team that we don't need 5 snipers or to point out that our team is needing a certain class to get past situations. So whenever I get them I just decline them, and move on. I was curious however, to know what others do when they get them.
To me, friends lists are for people that you know well, and if I put someone on my friends list than I want them to be there so I can get to know them better and vice verse. I just don't see the appeal in having a friends list full of random people you don't know. If you are on my friends list it's because I think you are a good person and I want to get to know ya better, and I can only do that with about 5-6 people before I start getting everyone mixed up. Which is especially hard on Steam when people change their name so often.
Always a good chance to make a friend. If they're belligerent then just take them off. You can never have too many friends.
Sigh... Next time it happens I may just roll with it and see where it goes.
Always decline.
Unless the person is smart enough to send a message with it.
State your business or you have no business in my business.
Now that I think about it, I think that's a big part of why I decline as well. Just give me something to go on as to why I should accept your advances. Like a "Hey I thought you were good in that game and you know your stuff. Mind if I friend ya so we can play together some time and I can learn something?" Or even a "Hey, we did good together in that game. Lets play together another time." etc.Always decline. Unless the person is smart enough to send a message with it. State your business or you have no business in my business.
Exactly, goes for any site with friends in my case.@TaliciaDragonsong said:

Too often I get blank invites or people who once left me in the cold who suddenly want to be friends.
The times I accepted randomly were mostly bad, from screaming kids on game services to unmature horndogs going mental on profile sites.
At least write, so I can have a moment to decide if I want to mess up my mental stability again. ^^
If somebody sends me a request on PSN with no text, they automatically get rejected. I'll at least consider adding them if they manage to write something.
Almost always decline, because i usually get them when i'm doing really well in a game or something. I have no idea why that compeles people to send my a friend request. I only use a mic while playing with other friends too, so usually i won't end up meeting somebody that i'd be cool with adding when i'm playing anyways. If i do end up adding somebody, it's usually somebody i already know, or somebody who i might want to play something with again. The one exception is Steam. Almost nobody i know personally plays pc games, so i'll usually add a lot more people that i normally wouldn't cuz sure why not.
When it comes to Steam I try to solicit friends from Giantbomb whenever I can so I accept random requests and assume they are from GB. I always like to see what people are playing or to compare achievements and what-not.
By the way. SuperWristBands is my Steam name. Add me, kay?
I accept most of the friend requests over XBL, if I get them I peruse their profile before I accept or decline. You never know who is going to send you an add. I general don't send the adds though as in general unless someone sticks out in a game to me. I get adds from matches in Halo: Reach and Brotherhood but I won't accept them without looking. I try to make it very clear about who I am on Live and I encourage Duders to add other Duders.
We are just one big old family after all.
For some reason I get as much 20+ invites weekly, most from russians adding the wrong guy. So yeah, I ignore most. Still have ~150 friends though.
I've only gotten one random friend invite and it was after a really close match in SFIII: 3rd Strike. I added him for the hell of it.
decline every time. i used to accept but it got annoying, i ended up with so many i couldnt tell who was who anymore, so i completely purged it lol
I pretty much always decline them, unless they send me a message telling me where they know me from.
Haven't got any on Steam, but I used to get them on Xbox when my gamertag was a movie reference. Always declined unless we talked in game and they were cool, then we would never play together again and I would end up removing them.
I don't like random people trying to glom onto me. I also get really tired of seeing them pop up when I'm playing. I just think, "this asshole I don't really even know is invading my xbox," So after adding a couple in the past I removed them and quit taking friend requests completely.
Oh I thought you were talking about random invites that you get from real life friends to hang out....
To those who decline... just keep on sucking it, since you're probably going to be shot (not shunned... SHOT) by me later on in the future when I reach my breaking point and slaughter you all 'Falling Down' style.
I generally decline them. I'm like you in that I feel bad if I remove them after accepting their invite.
