Need a movie for Valentine's Day. It can be a serious romance, but I prefer a romantic comedy. In a nutshell, I'm looking for dude-approved chick flicks.

I liked Forgetting Sarah Marshall a whole bunch. A bit more on the comedy side than the romantic side though. And kinda more on the dude flick side instead of the chick flick side. So win for you, I guess.

Like dude approved romantic comedies? Swingers, and basically anything Apatow-related (that's not Year One) is worth a shot- including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Love Actually is actually really smart for what should be a normal chick flick. Definitely Maybe and The Proposal are also WAY better than they should be mostly because Ryan Reynolds is a funny mothersmurfer but also the scripts for both of the movies are really tight.

The only romantic comedy I ever liked was Groundhog Day, which probably means I can't be of any help to you and should never talk about movies.

Music and Lyrics. Watched it with my ex when it came out and of all the crappy movies I had to go with her that one was actually somewhat enjoyable. It's nothing to write home about, still follows the basic romantic comedy formula, but Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore have good comedic timing and Hugh's character has a funny story behind him, he's a washed out 80's pop star who is still clinging to those songs.

EDIT: Here's the opening which is a cheesy 80's pop song music video.

Defending Your Life. That's about as good as romantic comedies can possibly get, and it's got Rip Torn so you can't go wrong.

Wall-E is the perfect movie in this case. However, my lady and I have exhausted that movie. Need something new.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is pretty good; I'd also recommend Adventureland, with Jessie Eisenberg. Both movies have some alright comedy bits interspersed with all the coming of age love stuff. And I just thought they were genuinely good movies. Both girls I took to see them enjoyed them quite a bit.

Valentine's Day?  What happened to January?  Someone tell me who won the Superbowl?

Watch the british TV series Coupling, its on netflix instant    Go through the first season or two which totals about 15 half hour episodes.  Make a day of it, it's great.  More comedy than romance, however.

On second thought fuck waiting, start now...

Going the Distance with Drew Barrymore is actually pretty good. You can read screened's review if you want.

Punch Drunk Love, but it's a bit obscure, so Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Forgetting Sarah Marshal, and Adventureland are more understandable substitutes (though Eternal Sunshine is also strange, but in a quirky way many can get behind!)

Love Actually is a pretty good choice. Lots of really funny stuff  that men and women can laugh at and a lot of romantic stuff as well.

I really like the UK version of Coupling and it is my favorite sit com of all time, but I think it's more funny than romantic.

Good luck

I always had a thing for Sleepless in Seattle, I have no idea why. Also Just Friends is a streotypical chick flick, but i found Ryan Reynolds to be very funny in it.

I hear Screened.com is a thing.

To be fair though, there have been good suggestions here. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one that I would second. Also, (500) Days of Summer.

Well if you want something less commy (but still humorous)  and more romy and also a movie that's a bit different, I would recommend Turn Left, Turn Right, it's probably my favourite film.

500 Days of Summer, About a Boy, High Fidelity, An Education.

An Education and About a Boy are kinda romantic comedies, but mostly just good movies. High Fidelity is fantastic.
