Hellooo, building a new comp on Tuesday and gonna download a few games now to play on it...could you please just recommend some games (not bothered what genre and stuff, being quite new would be better though) I got this so far (Upgrading gpu later, what should I upgrade to?):
Phenom II 3.4GHz Quad Core
Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX
4GB of DDR3 RAM
So yeah what is an affordable upgrade for the GPU and what good games can I play on it? :)
Thanks guys.
Recommend me some good PC games please. ^.^
I use the gtx 460 1gb and it can play almost anything with full settings. There are some ati choices that are cheap, but I don't use ati products. The HD 6850 or hd 6870.
Maybe you can try crysis and crysis warhead. Maybe starcraft 2.
edit: next post's advice is horrible for videocards, it wouldn't be much better than what you already have only a bit better.
Grim Fandango
Curse of Monkey Island
FEAR
Deus Ex
Fallout 2
Thief Trilogy (Metal Age, Deadly Shadows, Dark Project)
And be sure to download Steam.
There aren't very many politically correct games out there. Most simulation games would be so have at them.
Thanks for suggestions :)

I'm glad I haven't put any method of payment in yet I see so many deals I would normally jump at ><" Download Steam, ruin life. "
@MysteriousBob:
Haha :P
I think I'll give Crysis, Starcraft II and The Witcher a try to get a good mix :)
+ Does ArmA 2 have a good online community?
Tah...still unsure about GPU :( :P
Edit: Oo posted without refreshing shall look through the suggestions I missed, thanks! :)
" FPS: Bioshock, CoD'sRPG: Dragon Age, Mass Effects, Borderlands, Fallout 3, OblivionStrategy: Civ 5, SC2Indie: BraidOld: Fallout 1 and 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 CompleteYou should hold out till the Steam Christmas Sale. That's when prices are insanely low. "Thanks for the heads up will play demos and the mighty CoD 2 til the sales, haha. :)
Download steam, buy many many games.
Try Left for Dead 1 and 2 if you like fpses, but dislike Military based shooters. I've been playing those 2 games off and on in 1-2 hour chunks ever since I built my new rig.
All of these, and:" I Have No Mouth, and I must Scream
Grim Fandango
Curse of Monkey Island
FEAR
Deus Ex
Fallout 2
Thief Trilogy (Metal Age, Deadly Shadows, Dark Project) And be sure to download Steam. "
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 1
The Penumbra trilogy
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
The STALKER games
Machinarium
The Witcher
Team Fortress 2
Rome: Total War
Fallout: New Vegas
Morrowind
Cryostasis
The Half Life games
The Baldur's Gate games
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines
Medieval 2: Total War
Empire: Total War
System Shock 2 (Though it can be a bitch to run on newer machines)
And lots of others.
Sorry if they've already been mentioned.
most of the games I can recommend are either really old, or don't have high-end graphics.
Here goes:
Fallout 1 and 2
Deus Ex
Anachronox
The Longest Journey
VVVVVV
World of Goo
Diablo Series
KotoR
Steam sales
Starcraft 2
Neverwinter Nights
Guild Wars
Half-Life 2
Team Fortress 2
Torchlight
Recettear
I'm playing through Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II right now and that game is pretty cool. It's a good choice if you can't decide whether you want to play an RTS or an action RPG.
Some really good PC games are Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout: New Vegas, Team Fortress 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Medieval: Total War, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Some more suggestions for ya to keep an eye out on. Trying to think of stuff not listed already
- The Dawn of War series is some of the best RTS to get made since EA killed Command and Conquer. I'm not as big a fan of Dawn of War 2, but others swear by it.
- Despite what I just said, pick up Red Alert 3 if it goes on sale. It's not as good as RA 2, but it's a fun game in it's own right and would probably be much more enjoyable without the baggage of it's former games to compare it to. If you like bat shit crazy mixed with campy movies you will love it.
- If you want RPG's and don't mind last gen graphics pick up Knights of The Old Republic and Jade Empire.
- Dragon Age. Even if it doesn't go on sale get it. The Ultimate edition specifically. It's one of, IMHO the best, RPGs made in decades.
- Evil Genius. It's one of the greatest games no one has heard of.
Rather then me go on, just take a look at my list I made and if it's under the Steam section it's pretty good. Except those weird source mod games. They were gifted to me. Don't play those. Or those Commando games. They don't work on modern operating systems.
The Baldurs Gate series
The Quest for Glory series
Dwarf fortress
minecraft
wing commander series
civilisation 4
sim city
transport tycoon...etc
If you haven't played Max Payne 1 'n' 2, DO SO.
The Age of Empires games are fun - the 1 and 2 Complete Box is going for less than 10 bucks on Amazon.
This is completely random, but "Hype: The Time Quest". Try it out - you won't regret it.
Also, The Pink Panther: Hocus Pocus Pink was an excellent point-and-clicker.
Damn so many suuggestions...anyway this is my last time on giant bomb from this computer. Taking him apart now and building new one tomorrow
RIP
BYYEEE THANKS :)
GTX460 is one of the best price to performance ratio cards on the market and it's a good entry level DX11 GPU. I upgraded from my 8800GTX to a GTX460 about 6 months ago, and by upgrade i mean my 8800GTX died.
Damn the fans are loud on this, gonna try and adjust them somehow...I think it's the processor fan though >.>
anyway my first ever build :) took 2 hours the first time, then re did it and tidied the cables up!
thanks for comments will look into the games :)
