R.I.P. Don LaFontaine.
"Don LaFontaine, the man who popularized the catch phrase "In a world where..." and lent his voice to thousands of movie trailers, has died. He was 68. LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness, said Vanessa Gilbert, his agent."
"Wow...all I can think about is who is going to replace him, and if it's even possible. I hope they don't just use some guy who can impersonate him well because it's never the same. Time for a new era of trailer voice-overs I guess... RIP LoFontaine."
err... actually yes. A lot of them are impersonators (like dead rising was i believe)
As cliche as he was, trailers will be very different without him. I hope they find someone who can either do an exact impersonation or sound totally different.
"HandsomeDead said:Good point, an imitation wouldn't do him or the trailers justice no matter how good they were."As cliche as he was, trailers will be very different without him. Rest in peace, may you be in a world where you are happy, and, you still have the same awesome voice.
So long Don. Over the years we had our ups and downs, me praising you for delivering your blessings to a great film by doing the trailer, and vice versa, convincing me to see some pretty weak films, but still: We'll all miss you buddy.
You're up there with the big man now, pitching your own "In a world where..." for the first time. Make it a good one ^_^
RIP
