State Legislators busted playing video games.

The AP took this picture of two state legislators in Hartford, Connecticut during a debate Monday over the budget... 37 billion dollar budget. Here's one story of it.

On the one hand I can sympathize with the desire to have distractions when (the vast majority of) politicians are giving speeches.
 
On the other hand, if they want to play Solitaire on their laptop, then they ought to do so with their own money, and not take a tax-funded paycheque to do so.
 
Actually, no, I'm not torn. If you're taking someone's money to be a legislator, you should be 100% focused on the legislature.

ouch that wont go well.  I don't think it's a huge deal though, I can split my attention between watching a video and playing ballistic, and when something important comes up I pause it.  Yes it looks bad, and laughable, but realistically it's no big deal and they should just simply be told no more games... because when someone gets a picture then it gets taken out of proportion.

I wonder what the dude with itunes open is listening to.

They already are to some extent, problem is their political opponents are probably doing similar wasteful things, if not even more. "

i don't think it is a very big deal. the person on the right of them is surfing the internet on ESPN. i don't think it is all that big because there must be other people out there that went through a big thing surfing the internet or something.

Solitaire isn't such a compelling game that you must occupy the whole of your brain to it. And congressmen speaking certainly doesn't. All I see are two people juggling two very low  threshold activities so they don't fall asleep.

This looks like an orchestra, but I appreciate that's perhaps pushing a metaphor too far...
 
I think we either jump at the opportunity to indulge in a bit of assertive hypocrisy, or we could just let it go and act smug for a bit.

I ceased being shocked when I learned most congressmen and senators don't even read most of the legislation they're trying to write into law.

It's funny how people debate whether or not kids should have computers and cell phones in school because of stuff like this.  I think it should look at this as analogous to using a cell phone while you're at the steering wheel; only in this case, they're steering an entire state!  :)
