Sylvester Stallone vs Arnold Schwarenegger
Stallone, hands down. He's a legitimate actor, plus he's a decent writer and director who clearly exhibits a love for his craft and profession. Compare to Schwarzenegger who is more of a "personality" than an actor.
Arnold's movies hold up better because they're self-aware. He himself knows how ludicrous the action tropes are, and so you see that levity. Stallone played it so straight back in the day. We're only now starting to see him poke fun at himself.

You didn't put Chuck Norris as an option
This thread is silly because of that fact :D
Apart from being a pal of insane fundy Mike Huckabee & a really dumb internet meme what is notable about Chuck Norris?
Honestly, I think that Arnold has done a wider...range? (not really the right term) of fun films, but then Stallone has the Rocky films, which I adore (well, not the 5th one), & the first Rambo, before it was just a dumb action film, was really cool.
I dunno, I'll say Sly because he did write & direct Rocky, & that first Rocky is a brilliant movie.
Stallone was better at his peak and he's better now. I love a lot of older Arnie movies, but I have an insane amount of love for the first two (three possibly) Rambo movies, Tango & Cash, Judge Dredd (really!) Cobra and The Expendables 2 was fucking fantastic, The fight between him and JCVD at the end left me with the hugest smile on my face.

As much as I love Arnold, this pretty much sums it up.
Arnold has yet to actually convey a genuine sense of emotion to me on screen, where as I legitimately felt empathy for Stallone in "Cop Land."
If this was currently, Stallone would win it. He never tried to dump on video games.
But if we're talking all time, Arnold. Terminator and Predator? Cmon.
The question is whether or not we are comparing them in real life, or in context of the characters they play.
For some reason, I think Sylvester Stallone would kick Arnold's ass in real life, but I would definitely say The Terminator crushes anything Stallone has ever played.

Stallone showed his incredible acting with Cop Land. That allone makes me pick hem.
Fuck I forgot about cop land. Man that movie was goooooooood. Like really good. Glad I had already picked Stallone because of Demolition man, Cobra, Tango and Cash. Damn man, He's got some really good movies under his belt.
I went with Stallone, I think they're both great but Stallone takes it, he's had the better movies in my opinion.
They both have new films coming and Stallone's looks like its going to be a rocket buster of an action movie where as Arnold's looks a little flat to me (hiring Johnny Knoxville as his sidekick probably doesn't help matters). Also looking at his imdb page...he's making 'Triplets' a sequel to twins....seriously? :/

I'd say Arnold's been in better movies but Sly's a better actor. They're both great though.
Nothing Arnie ever did could touch Rocky. Won the Best Picture award at the Oscars, plus Sly was nominated for both actor & screenwriter awards.
Seriously, just hearing this song makes the shivers run down my spine, such a wonderful film, probably the 2nd best sports movie ever made after Raging Bull.
Stallone has more movies I like (including a few of the bad ones), but the Arnold movies I like are much better, so it's a tough call but I have to go with Stallone. Though if you'd included Predator or Total Recall on Arnold's list, that would have been swapped, my lists likely would've been Stallone (Demolition Man, Tango & Cash, First Blood); Arnold (Predator, Terminator 2, Total Recall).
Hm.
Only Arnold-starring movie I've seen start to finish is Last Action Hero. That movie's pretty good!
Only Stallone-starring movies I've seen start to finish are Rocky and The Expendables 2. Rocky is obviously pretty great. Expendables 2 was aggressively dull whenever Willis, JCVD, and Arnold weren't on the screen.
So, in my extreme inexperience, going with Arnold. I liked JCVD's "JCVD" better than any of those other ones, though.
Arnold, though Stallone has his moments. Maybe if Stallone were more consistently humorous, but eh Arnold has so many of the best action movies of all time.
I went with Stallone, Tango and Cash is great. I think Stallone kind of went from action hero to realizing he was old and tried to change his types of movies. Arnold always seems like the Conan no matter what he's trying to do. Either way I can't wait to watch both their new movies and judge them going forward.

You should go and watch a couple of movies, kid! Seriously: Terminator 2, Predator and Total Recall (the old one) are must see movies
Arnold is the best action hero to ever grace the screen, he owned the roles he played. It's hard finding new action heroes that aren't either ex wrestlers or Bourne-esque spies.
@Superfriend: I know, I know! I've actually seen part of Total Recall, and I loved what I saw, but I've just never seen it start-to-finish. Or, at least, I haven't seen it start-to-finish since I was like five, and I don't remember it anymore.
Most of the movies I haven't seen are actually the kind of movies that feed into video games. Like, no Jurassic Park, just finally saw BTTF a couple years ago, no Star Trek until J.J. Abrams, no First Blood, etc. Which is weird, because my parents always liked that stuff, they just never showed it to me! Anything before 1999 in that field is probably a grey area for me, unless I've made an effort to watch it in the last few years.
