Thoughts on the 80s? (...they were bad)

What do you guys think of the 80s/ the media produced in them. I find it's either love or hate. Discuss!

(Am I right in saying this is not youtube spam as there is valid discussion?)

The 80s were a barbaric time. Not at all like the 90s.

The music fucking sucked for the most part.

I was born in 92 so I can't really speak to living in the 80s, but I like a lot of 80's movies, so have a fairly positive view on the decade.

I was born in the late 80's.

That was cool. For me anyhow.

The 80's ruled. Just sayin'.

The NES. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Thrash metal.

You got all those sitcoms, the films like Rambo and Karate Kid, the music like Metallica etc. The 90s were just plain shit in comparison. Maybe I am biased though, cos I am an 80s baby.

First thoughts are that it was shit but then I remember

One major redeeming value of the 80's are fantastic Sci-Fi movies. There is a certain feel/texture of a great 80's Sci-Fi flick that just can't seem to be recreated. We are talking about a stretch of time that gave us Alien, Robocop, Predator, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Empire, Blade Runner.... The list goes on and on.

As a child of the 80's, I don't think they were that bad. The music was awful, though. Some truly classic movies to come out of the 80's, but the film selection was mostly pretty terrible.

But aside from having a better president, the 90's were worse, and somehow seem more outdated than the 80's.

A whole decade. Tons of cool shit happened. Music, culture, science, literature etc etc.

Looking back, fashion was a mess but some of my favorite movies (Indy series, Aliens, Empire, Jedi, Willow) and music (Guns N' Roses, Metallica) come from that decade and I love it for that reason.

Isn't every past decade a mess when viewed from some present?

Today is doing a better job of being the 80s than the 80s ever could. Don't believe me? Which version of the Thundercats would you rather watch? My Little Pony?...I thought so.

I missed the eighties by a mere twenty-four days.

the 80's are cool now looking back in retrospect. but they SUCKED at the time.
