I don't think you were out of line but the fat kid is fat and angry.
Was I being rude?
" I don't think you were out of line but the fat kid is fat and angry. "logic is everywhere in this line
That guy was completely overreacting. As an overweight person I get annoyed when people say "You're not fat", I think I'd know if I'm fat better than anyone else.
If somebody made a joke about how ugly their face is and you said "I'm too good looking; maybe you could give me some of that ugliness," they'd be understandably put off by that. Now, this case is less extreme and I do think the guy overreacted quite a bit, but I can see why he was offended.
I'm overweight, not obese or abnormally large, but overweight none the less.. i would say i'm light hearted about it. I used to be really really small when i was younger and i put on a lot of weight when i entered High school, it doesn't choke me up or anything neither i actually kind of like the extra weight.
ANYWAYS, back on topic.. the dude you were with totally over reacted, if he's so touchy about that subject he should have just left it alone. All he did was open himself up to another joke and if he doesn't have the balls to accept that then he should do what other people here have said and try and do something about his weight.
I'm fine with my current build because I love to eat.
I'm a skinny dude, too and we really don't get much opportunity to joke about our low weight in this country (US) because when we do it's usually taken as boasting by our (overweight) friends. This is a nation full of people dealing with weight problems. If it all happened as you said it did, then I don't think you were being rude. The thing is being skinny carries fewer negatives in modern society than being chubby, so heavy people are more sensitive to comments than we are. I've found that when fat guys joke around about their weight it is a way of acknowledging their problem in a group with some sense of control. However, when someone else (not-fat) adds to that conversation, there is a loss of control and the comments feel as if they've been turned around back against them as ridicule. I feel whenever an overweight person starts talking (or complaining) about their size, it's best to nod and say nothing until they are done. Then tell them they must have a gigantic penis. It's important to go on and on about the enormity of their manhood. Use words like colossal, mammoth and causing Gozdilla-like fear in young Asian girls.
" @Abyssfull said:Good analysis Doc." Overreaction from the sound of things. Especially if he was who brought up the weight jokes in the first place. "He joked about it because he's insecure. I'm a doctor, trust me. "
Can you tell me what it means when people make stuff up about themselves on the net?
I don't quite understand why he was so offended by you saying that you wanted to gain some weight, even if you mentioned taking some of his off his hands...
Based on his reaction it doesn't even seem like it was the joke itself that offended him, merely the concept that people out there might wish they were a few pounds heavier... which is absolutely ridiculous.
" Fatty as a self esteem problem "This. I'm a little on the chunky side, but I'm also the first one to make fun of myself for it.
Also, making fun of fat people is as American as the majestic turkey and moose. Just ask Al Bundy.
Whaa? He over reacted, when people open jokes up like that its a basic open invitation. Then again, some of my friends who are a tad on the heavier side arent really bothered. He probably reacted in such a way because you dont know him but he still stupidly over reacted :/
I wouldnt let it bother you though. Skinnyness FTW?
Now that was out of line, my fault :P
" @discost3w said:If more people took that attitude, there might be fewer fat people... or at least less fat on the fat people." Fatty as a self esteem problem "This. I'm a little on the chunky side, but I'm also the first one to make fun of myself for it. Also, making fun of fat people is as American as the majestic turkey and moose. Just ask Al Bundy. "
" Fuck that. People don't know how much it sucks to be underweight. "Exactly man lol. I would kill to gain 10 pounds, when its windy outside I seriously lose my balance...
I don't think so. I'm overweight but I still find this hilarious - dudes got some moves:
