That show has always confused me.

On one hand, it pokes fun at the 'nerds' of the show and they're often used as the butt of all the jokes.

On the other hand, it makes a lot of references that only the 'nerds' it pokes fun at would get.

...so yeah, I don't really know what kind of audience it's going for.

I like it, other than the laugh track. I can see how others find it annoying though. It is the only light comedy of its kind that I can watch. Usually sitcoms, especially family situation ones like everyone loves raymond, make me homicidal.

Big Bang Theory started off kind of strong - more misses than hits in terms of laughs. I think they should have stayed nerdy instead of all the lady action which soon appeared. Surely the fact they're getting laid totally negates their nerd cred.

Sheldon is a pretty spectacular comedy creation though.

I'm between A and B as well, I like it a lot.

It's always interesting how vocal people can become when they DON'T like something... kinda weird in case of tv-show, though.

I watched two episodes and literally just did not understand what was funny about any of the jokes. To each their own.

I'm extremely offended by how Jim Parsons keeps snatching up Emmy's out of the mouths of Alec Baldwin and Steve Carrell.

30 Rock is a train wreck in my opinion. It is like they watched Arrested Development and Seinfeld and said those are funny so let's take what was great about those and make it like that only not funny.

That is as close to wrong as an opinion can get. 30 Rock is absolutely hilarious. The first shows I would go to to compare certainly would not be the two you mentioned. It's not a reality show parody or a sitcom.

Provided one finds unfunny dreck to be hilarious.

I don't, but hey, YMMV.

It's amusing hearing somebody call a show the worst show out there when 30 Rock is in existence.

Any show that uses a fucking laughtrack that liberally is pretty much saying "Hey, we know it isn't that funny, so we know we have to tell you when to laugh"

Fuck that show.

While I agree, other show's laugh tracks are more discrete and (for me anyway) go mostly unnoticed.

I have seen a couple of episodes and seems fine for a US network comedy. Certainly no worse than say Friends or Cheers and a lot better than that Charlie Sheen show with the fat kid.

And what makes it "fine for a US network comedy" exactly? I enjoy American programming honestly, it has some really good stuff

People acting all offended and trashing it, same as whenever any type of mainstream-y thing gets mentioned here. I can kinda see the arguments being made though, some of the jokes are meh. I still watch it pretty often, for every few kinda un-funny jokes there's always something amusing.

I like to say  the show is to Nerd culture what Will and Grace was to the Gay community  and what an even more old school show called  Amos and Andy was to the African American community.  Oh and I haven't checked all the post but Big Bang Theory with out a laugh track is funny in a different way.   Not even the combined forces of Ricky Gervais, Larry David, and Tim and Eric could create something this intentionally awkward.

I actually enjoy the show, though I wish the show was written without a laugh track, that shit annoys me and instantly destroys most comedic timing and makes things that I didn't find really all that funny awkward when the audience starts laughing hysterically.

I don't care for the show. I can't really articulate why, maybe it's the "HEY, LOOK AT ME, I'M A NERD!" attitude.

While that colossally bad laugh track is probably the worst thing that's ever happened to me besides The Nutcracker in 3D and getting robbed at gunpoint, the show as a whole is utterly dreadful. I can't understand what people see in it.

Ironically enough, I find it AMAZINGLY more watchable without the laugh track. It comes off as if it isn't trying so hard to be funny and mainstream, instead it gives me a more slice of life vibe about some dudes. I would go as far to say that I would actually watch this shit without the laugh track.

It's overrated and sucks horribly. I could understand why people like it though, so I don't try to judge them too harshly.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is waaaay more funny. It's like every comedy sitcom you have ever seen, but on crack. Seinfield on Crack. Friends on Crack. CRACK CRACK CRACK.

The first time I saw it, I thought it was stupid. . . and then I couldn't stop watching. I think the show is entertaining and while they push the nerd thing to its very edge, it isn't doing it in a way that depicts nerds in a bad way. Or at least, not in an overly negative way like it could have. More often than not, it makes it seem like people who don't understand them are idiots. Also, I think the show hits a lot of areas that other shows wouldn't really be able to without it just being a side thing with the one smart character in a sitcom doing something ancillary. The poll needs something below favorite, but above lots of misses. It's definitely not my favorite, but I don't think it has a lot of misses neither.

i get the jokes though. i just never laugh. I guess my soul really IS black as tar!

o well

IT crowd is somewhat better both as a comedy and something that real "nerds" will enjoy. People in grad school are NOTHING like how BBT depicts them. BBT is a hodgepodge of what the ignorant mainstream think physicists/engineers are like; which is almost always wrong. Also it's basically a family drama/friends type show with occasional (un)funny moments. The laugh track is almost always stupid since they laugh at anything : "hey guys i got windows 7" - audience bursts out in spasticated laughter, some undergoing epileptic fits and others suffering spinal cord injuries from the sheer hilarity of this statement.

BBT is also an example of why mainstream american TV in general fails; and that quantity=/=quality.

I wasn't using it as an insult - to me a network comedy tends to be broad, usually family friendly to some extent and takes very few risks, lacks much of an edge. Which could be said for most network TV in any country, they have to appeal to the base.

I was in the "Big Bang Theory is the worst thing on television" camp for the longest time. Then I actually sat through several episodes and found myself laughing at some of the jokes. It's not the most clever comedy (Community), but it's not the worst comedy (Two and a Half Men). It's a guilty pleasure, and I can understand people hating it for competing against Community.

It has its moments, although the lack of a driving force like the one of the first season (the nerdy guy trying to get noticed by the hot girl next door) makes it seems more random.

I enjoy watching it a lot. It would be nice if they could skip the laugh track though, now that I think about it...it's such a weird thing that just won't die.
