Local Disk. Just never thought to change it. I might now, though.
What's the name of your hard drive? (Thread is 4 years old)
my main drive is named Infinity because i thought I would never fill two terabytes but now i'm out of space on it so i should probably change the name
my other older drive is Hyperdrive
The hard drive in my laptop is named Alpha Hunter Drive, and my portable hard drive is Omega Hunter Drive. My flash drive is Mini Hunter Drive.
SSD is "C".
1 tera is "E"
externals are "F" through "J".
Actually, I think the system names them after whatever make they are along with assigning them a letter. I have a couple of externals from the same manufacturer, so I added a "2" and so forth to those.
My C:\ drive is named Raccoon, D:\ is named Shark, E:\ is named Otter. They're named after some of my stuffed animals.
c: (system) is picard
x: (audio) is sisko
z: (video) is riker
That makes me wish my drives were named thusly:
Enterprise (C:)
Enterprise (D:)
Enterprise (E:)
@zombiepenguin9: haha, nice. next go around i'll probably do mr_laforge, mr_data, and mr_worf.
Err... "Macintosh HD". That is what my lappy's is called. I should probably change that.
On my desktop my 2TB storage drive is "THE VAULT" and my SSD is "Turbocharger". My old SSD was "Supercharger" but it died.
My one comp sci prof named the hard drive in his Mac after a type of cabbage. Did I mention he was kinda crazy?
My external harddrive has two partitions, the larger one being "Bob Marley" and the other "The Wailers."
(My brother bought it in Jamaica)
It's funny that this thread has been bumped twice by users who apparently only registered to post about their partition naming conventions.
I used to have somewhat fancy names in the 90's when the hard drive lettering was determined by the position on the IDE cable (I remember calling my 125MB Caviar hard drive Kalle, because of a famous caviar brand in Sweden), but as hard drives increased in size and it started getting beneficial to have multiple partitions and when Windows 2000 introduced the option to reassign the letter without switching around the cables, I started using descriptive names including the order they should be listed in so I could be sure they hadn't been randomly reassigned different drive letters, which I remember happening on occasion.
So for the last 15 years I've mostly gone with stuff like my current:
C: win-boot, D: storage1 E: storage2-3TB G: external1 H: win7backup
Local Disk (C:)
My external silver-colored Seagate drive is called "Silver Bullet". Because I thought it was clever.
Sounds like the name of a sex toy.
Each drive is named in the format <model number>_<last 3 digits of serial number>.
Each partition's letter is custom assigned according to purpose.
This has been the most useful system for me. I have a lot of drives, and they get cycled around, so keeping them well organized saves a lot of headache.
My OS on the SSD is still called local disk but the HDD for storage is called FARTS and the second SSD for storage is called Faster Farts
I recently bought an SSD which i have made my OS drive. The original drive i have split into 2, namely "F: The Hive" and as per the post of SuicidalSnowman, i have named the other one "D: The Ark". My thumbdrive is now just "THE FLASH".
