When babysitting is using somebody else's Laptop/PC cool?

I am currently babysitting, I brought my iPad and had hoped to use that. But I forgot to get their password for there wifi so I am stuck in this house without wifi. However I see there laptop sitting in the corner, do you think it would be cool to use it or is that rude in some way?

I'm on my phone right now on 3G, very slow.

I wouldn't do it unless I got permission to use it first.

Some people can be really sensitive about their computers, especially if they keep a lot of personal stuff there.

EDIT: I mean I guess it depends on the type of person they are. If it's a shared family computer it might be ok but I wouldn't count on it.

If British tv is anything like BBC America, then Top Gear is on all day every day, and Im ok with that.

EDIT: I dont know if you are asking about the Wireless password for your phone, but you should always have games installed on your laptop, a lot of the games you get from GOG.com can run on netbooks even.

Only if you're going to be watching porn with it (jokes). But yeah it's really not cool. I don't even let the people I live with touch my computer, so if someone just watching my house or babysitting touched it I would not be happy.

I rummaged through my bag and found my 3DS with Mario Kart In it, that will help matters.

i dont think you should call them for the password. they're probly trying to have a good night out and dont want to be bothered with a call about their password.

Bring your own computer and just ask if you can use their interweb to surf the pron.

Maybe they didn't change the original network key for the wi-fi. Most people don't. It's located on the bottom of the router.

I don't even give out my wifi password, I usually input it for people if they ask. I also wouldn't let anyone besides my closest friends use my computer. I have most of my passwords saved and wouldn't want anyone getting a hold of my gmail.

Edit: I am also the only person who knows my wifi password.

Yeah, don't call them :P. Just occupy yourself some other way/make sure the kid dosen't kill himself. Kids are dumb that way.

and its not okay to use there laptop unless you have been giving permission, and cant see why you would even ponder on that.

@Hizang: Maybe it's my attitude towards guests in my household, but what is mine is yours. I wouldn't feelt offended someone used my laptop while I was away due to the fact that I know it's more of an entertainment value for the individual and not a diabolical scheme to fill me with viruses and watch porn all day.

However, that all depends on how much the people who hired you trust in your motives. I know when I babysat during middle school, the couple that had me watch their children understood I was a very well balanced person and allowed me to even have a friend over when I babysat.

TL;DR: Depends on the couple. Usually that leave a phone number, why don't you give them a call and ask? Should look like a very upstanding act to them.

Try the Wi-Fi Key on the bottom side of the router. The Wizard is boring as shit.

Why not just tether the phone to the iPad? I've streamed Netflix over 3G through that connection and it's totally awesome.

It would be rude, as many people consider it their personal space and going into it without their permission is like rummaging through their underwear drawers. If you don't get caught however it's all fair game! In both circumstances. Not that I would ever do something like that myself. YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING! *runs away*

Usually the password can be found on the back of the wireless receiver.

It's only okay if you also make sure to look for any pornos they may have filmed or naked pictures they have taken.

I'd rather you burn down my house than use my laptop, even though there's nothing bad on it. Using people's shit, especially electronics, without permission is usually a big no.
