My University lecturer asked me to do this a few days ago. Here is mine.
Your political compass!
I'm half a space right, one down. Makes sense, seeing as I find myself defending both Obama and McCain from their detractors, and I've just barely decided to vote for McCain (mainly due to Obama's socialist leaning, wealth redistribution plan of higher taxes for the rich).

Rich people, we're going to take your money away cause poor people's feeling might get hurt. And the fact that you SLAVED over your job and BUSTED you balls trying to get to the top, doesnt matter. My dad pays 39% income tax. 39%!!!!!!! Thats INSANE!!!! No one, poor, rich, middle class...should have to pay that kind of taxes. The feds dont need to STEAL that kind of money from people. If the were taking, idk. Lets say 20%-25% i would say, thats a little high, but its not a crime...39%!!!! Are you kidding? There will always be rich, poor, and everything inbetween. Get over it, and dont punish people for being successful."whackmypinata said:So what your saying is that the poor should be taxed from money they dont have, and the rich shouldn't with money they have too much of?""Pibo47 said:Um, yeah. Because thats called stealing from the rich. And some other things to, its not just that. But thts a big one.""Does financially conservative just mean you don't want to be taxed higher because you have money?"This is really not accurate for me. Im really more left than that, i am socialy liberal and finacialy conservative. I am much more of a libertain. But it was fun, and i anwsered some on the questions the wrong way....so put me 2 ticks left and that about were i am."

> What i am saying is that, everybody should be taxed the same %
It doesn't work for people with very low and high amounts. If someone made a million and even if you take 40%, that's $600,000. If you can't get by on that much in a year, there's something wrong with you. If you're making 20,000 and get 10% tax, that leaves you with 18,000, even before taxes, that 30 times less than the rich person after taxes.
>Anything else other than that is saying. Rich people, we're going to take your money away cause poor people's feeling might get hurt.
It's about economic fairness, poor people's feelings getting hurt is irrelevant and stawmanish
>And the fact that you SLAVED over your job and BUSTED you balls trying to get to the top, doesnt matter
And poor people don't work hard too? Unless they're workaholics, rich people get generous vacation time and a decent schedule to work. Go to any retail store and ask the lowest people what their schedules are like: working weekends, screwy hours, and part-time because they wouldn't want to insure them now, would they.
>My dad pays 39% income tax. 39%!!!!!!! Thats INSANE!!!!
No it's not. The only reason its that high is because your dad will go to H&R Block or wherever and it won't be nearly that high, in fact I wouldn't doubt that it would end up being zero if he kept all his receipts. They actually had to pass legislation because rich people were getting too much money back from their income taxes - and that's on top of the money they already made.
And if your dad is that unhappy, he can get a job at Wal-Mart ... I won't hold my breath.
>Get over it, and dont punish people for being successful.
Lately CEO's have been getting double digit wage increases while everyone else's wages are stagnating. The CEO of Wamu, one of the banks that went under, got $20 million. Go look at the Wikipedia article "Income inequality in the United States." What a horrible punishment if they can't get that 4th house or 3rd yacht, boo-hoo. Stop whining about how "bad" your dad has it.
"Oh, And BoG, I'd expect a moderator to know that this sort of post belongs in off topic not General discusision lol."Crap. I usually just click the new topic button on the newest topics tab. My bad.
Giantkitty's post just makes me think of Karl Marx. Everyone working overtime for no extra pay, not getting weekends, and taking vacations to your basement unite! Overthrow the bourgeoisie!

I was (-7,-5) or (-5,-7), meant to post that earlier
">Giantkitty's post just makes me think of Karl Marx. Everyone working overtime for no extra pay, not getting weekends, and taking >vacations to your basement unite! > What i am saying is that, everybody should be taxed the same %What you fail to realize is that ultimately, higher taxes on the rich will come back to hurt the middle class. Do you really think rich business owners are just going to just take the financial blow of higher taxes? No, they're going to pass it on. To keep more of their money, they're going to layoff employees, not replace the jobs of employees that quit, and lower starting wages for new employees. THAT is why higher tax rates for the rich are a bad idea, and Obama's tax plan is socialist leaning wealth redistribution that will HURT the middle class in the long run, not help them. Our economy is already bad enough right now to worry about business owners wanting to cut spending by hurting their employees.

Yeah, i have to agree with BoG about giantkitty. Its all about fairness kitty. And it will work out fine if you tax everybody the same. Maybe the govenment shouldnt be taking that much money in the 1st place. Yeah they have to operate, by they are over stepping their bounds, with about EVERYTHING! When was hte last time, any government in history fixed a problem they didnt create?
"This is generally what all these tests say for me.
Not surprising. I consider myself to be a little liberal on the economy, but I figured I'd be further down on the libertarian scale."
"Gunner said:Why, don't you want children?"Like the "should retards reproduce?" question.. I was kinda startled by that one."Were you? I just said "no"."

"Gunner said:One side of me says "every human being has the basic rights of freedom on this earth so yes" and the other side was saying "they are retards... the more retards in this world the worst off we are so no" I went with disagree though."Like the "should retards reproduce?" question.. I was kinda startled by that one."Were you? I just said "no"."
A problem with the test is that it does not distinguish between my opinions and what I think should be done. So for instance, I do not think that charity is a "Better way of helping the poor" than government spending for them, but that doesn't necessarily mean I think we should throw in a whole bunch of socialist policies. In reality, I'm slightly more libertarian and a bit more right wing than this graph indicates.

The more money someone has, the more tax they pay proportional to the amount they earn. The government is charging people for a service, namely so that it can sustain itself and govern the people. All governments today have socialist elements, wherein welfare exists to preserve those who can not help themselves for one reason or another financially. Naturally, the richer you are, the less you benefit from welfare. Past a certain threshold, you get no welfare, yet you pay unbelievably enormous taxes.
You arguing that you don't "need" all that extra money is true, but I can think of a million and one things that you have but you don't "need". Need has nothing to do with anything - either people have a right to property, or they do not. Money is a kind of property, but for necessities sake, the government must take *some* of it to keep the country from collapsing into anarchy. But I think it is absolutely disgusting to tax rich people more than you tax average income people. You are already taxing them more money, why do you need to tax them proportionally more also?
If you want to close loopholes that stop rich people from paying taxes, fine, I agree, they should pay taxes. Where I don't agree is that they should pay MORE taxes, proportionally to what they earn. Some people earn more money than other people, this is a fact of life. The government is here to protect people's rights, not to cut some people's legs off because they are rising above the crowd. Equality is a noble goal until you realise that it will always come at the expense of freedom. By refusing to let people who have failed suffer the consequences of their failures (be it their own fault or not), you also diminsh some people's successes.
