Well, I like it.
If you have ever played a Front Mission game before, you know that it is all about going into the Wanzer Shop, fine tuning your power to weight ratio, then blasting enemy wanzers in turn-based grid combat. This game doesn't change that. In fact, it doesnt really change anything. Combat is nearly identical to previous games and the story is told entirely through talking head text bubbles (now somewhat voice-acted) and cutscenes mostly of wanzers walking down streets. The interesting elements of the ingame internet and the ability to eject from your wanzer from previous games have been removed, with the only real addition being the ability to call in air strikes. The story is a bit bland and takes a long time to develop. The characters are ok, but really cliche. I feel that the weapon types are better balanced, though indirect weapons (i.e. rockets and air strikes) still seem too good. All in all, if you enjoy spending just as much time tweeking your wanzer as you do fighting in turn-based combat, give Front Mission a try. It's one of my favorite PS2 games, even though i can understand if someone else doesn't appreciate it as much.
